My first bass! Check it out:

This thing is a 4 foot long beast. This is how it compares to me. I'm a 5'9" 145lb kid, too, so this thing's huge.

The color looks a lot better in real life compared to the pictures.

Unfortunately, the neck dive rumors this thing has are true. It may be caused by the huge headstock which is about 9.5 inches long.

It's a great bass from what I've seen so far. The huge size makes it a little difficult to play, but it is manageable. In my opinion it is totally worth it for such a good instrument.

Congrats. I love the logo. It really is a cool looking bass, all locker room humor aside.

She is a big girl. Don't let her get on top.

Drop it down as low as you can comfortably stand it, and then drop it another inch for good measure.

You might also benefit from securing some sort of weight to the back end of the strap, right where a wireless transmitter would normally go... That's what I did with the Explorer I had, it had a similar tendency to neck dive. A wider strap, or one with a shoulder pad, would help some too. I find that hanging them lower does help some, and for me anyway, the closer to straight I can keep my right arm while playing, the less quickly I start to get muscle fatigue in my picking/plucking hand and arm... YMMV, of course. (I also just happen to think that a bass just doesn't look right if it's not bouncing off of your knees, LOL... Okay, well maybe not QUITE that low...)

Cool bass though. Give it a fair run before you decide you need to switch to a Jazz Bass or other design... you may find that once you get used to it, it's the perfect bass for you. Or not... but it looks cool enough to try, anyway. Enjoy!

I'm not a fan of 9lb wood planks bouncing off my knees, so maybe I'll keep it higher for now

And yeah, I've got to stop this thing from neck diving, that's my only issue with the bass as of now.

And I was wrong - the headstock is 9.5 inches long!!!!!

Congrats on the new bass. Gibson design basses are known for the head dives. It's caused by the location of the neck strap button. If it were positioned further foreword, it would have less head dive.
