Today I saw an ad for a Vox AD-100VT-XL for the low price of $180.The amp has had very little use and the MSRP was over $800 when new.Unlike most hybrids the Vox AD series had the 12-ax-7 tube in the power amp section which gave the amp a much more realistic tube like performance and sound. It has 11 killer effects and 11 spot on amp models also.Should I go for this puppy? All input is welcome.

I'd probably jump right on that Derek, tried a couple of the lower wattage models a while back, got to the "will I, wont I" stage comparing against a little 4watt all tube, in the end popped for the 4 watt all tube as I alread have a Marshall AVT100 (pre amp tube) and a 70's Marshall masterlead transistor amp before that, so decided to go all tube for the first time, but it was seriously turning my head for second looks, a steal at that price I'd have thought Derek

I decided this morning that I would buy it since I saw an ad for the same model amp on reverb.com for $500 and $180 is what I paid for the Vox VT-20 that I bought for my gifted cousin back in August.I phoned the guy today and he had sold the amp last week and had forgotten to take the ad down. That would've been a fabuous deal if I had gotten it.

Man, that is too bad. :(

I am on my second VOX, the VT30. Had the AD30VT then sold it to get the new, at the time, VT30. They are better than the majority of hybrids and DSP models available today.

The tone and effects are better than most. Better luck next time.

Hi Snick I agree with you about Vox making about the best of the hybrid amps. The secret of the great tone of Vox hybrids is in the fact that they put the 12-AX-7 tube in the power amp section of the amp as opposed to the preamp in just about all other hybrids. Having the tube in the power amp section means that the tube powered section is the last one that the signal goes through before it goes to the speakers so that it won't be affected by other circuits. The effects are absolutely the best onboard effects that I've heard yet and the modulation effects such as Univibe and Leslie simulation slow down and ramp up gradually just like the real units. The reverb/delay settings are also pretty well studio quality.

So far I have bought 5 Vox amps,I have 4 and bought one for an exceptionally gifted 11 year old cousin because he didn't have a decent amp-or guitar,so I got him an Affinity Squier Tele and a Vox VT-20.I have a Pathfinder 15R,a Mini-3,an AC-15-C1 and an AD-120-VTH witha Vox 4-12 BN cabinet loaded with Steven Grindrod designed Wharfedales. My other Vox gear is 3 60s vintage Vox guitars,an Amplug AC-30,a '67 Clyde McCoy wah and a V-846-HW handwired wah.I hope to acquire as much Vox gear as the house will hold-as long as the money holds out....lol.

I still have the Vox AD60VTX, which I bought on your advice, Derek, and I'm real happy with it. I'm using it for band rehearsal. I have the VC12 pedal board and I've been getting some nice tones out of it. Here is an audio clip of a solo I recorded at rehearsal using my Vox. http://www.soundclick.com/player/single ... i&newref=1

Hi Drew,I'm glad that you're pleased with the AD 60 VTX that I recommended. The song sounds great. These VC-12s really open up the possibilities for the AD series amps and the ability to store tones that you create and be able to bring them up whenever you want is a fabulous feature of the series.I have wracked my brain trying to get the hang of the VC-12 and storing tones and amp/effects combinations that I have created but the 60 page owners manual might just as well been written in Mayan heiroglyphics as far as my ability to decypher the programming instructions goes.I just use the VC-12 to access the effects on the amp and to dial up the programs that came from the factory settings.

I can really identify with Joe Walsh's latest album because for years I have been saying the exact words that he used:"I'm an analogue man in a digital world."I can't get the hang of anything that requires any kind of computer know-how and have to mostly rely on my analogue pedals.I guess that I'm destined to be a Luddite for the rest of my days.Cheers.

Yes, rotating the patches (switches) from the VC-12 to the amp and back is cumbersome. I have to have the book open when I do it, and I keep a pen and paper handy to keep track of where I moved things, or I get twisted around real quick. Software doesn't seem to be Vox's strong point. I mostly use my own custom patches anyway.
