Ended up doing 4 coats. With 3, you could still see some blemishes and putty.

Looks good, though. Drying now.

It's really a shame that the neck is all $@!&*% up. The frets have literally no wear on them. I think someone bought this guitar to destroy it.

Where are the pictures? It only takes Krylon ten minutes to dry or did you use a brush?

Hi Buxom, there aren't many things that will you the sense of accomplishment that resurrecting a ruined guitar from the dead.My first restoration project was my '65 Mustang which the previous owner had stripped down with rough sandpaper and then finished with a clear varnish that he slopped on with a brush-she looked horrendous. She had most likely originally been white because she had the tortoise shell pickguard whereas the red, blue had white guards.I sanded her down properly and then applied a Candy Apple Blue paint job.Candy apple finishes are tedious and time consuming to do,plus if you make any mistakes you have to start from the beginning again.First you apply your primer/sealer then spray on the metallic silver-flake base coat. When that dries you spray on your coloured and transparent finish. The final step is to apply the clear coat to protect the delicate Candy Apple paint. It's very labour intensive but the end results are incredible if done with great care.

I look forward to seeing your restoration job.

The paint isn't really picked up by my phone.

I totally changed direction, however.

It's far from finished. And I did 7 coats of white. 4 of glossy acrylic for strength, and 3 of no gloss because it's more porous. I rubbed the hell out of it with blue chalk and wet sanded it, then rubbed it again. it was extremely tiring.

And you can still see a few small indentations here and there where I had to fill in "stab wounds" But only if you're actually looking for it.

It's almost impossible to see all the nicks and indentations in the bare wood unless you are really used to searching them out and finding them-that comes after lots of practice.

I didn't even strip it to bare wood. I covered the whole thing in putty, basically. Most of it was sanded away

She's got nice knobs :P I was originally gonna do speed knobs, but they were $10 and only came in a pack of 4 at my local music shop. I found these in the guitar tech's spare parts bag. I got cream pickup rings as well. This build is going hella fast.

I've decided on pickups. I'm going to get a set of Wilkinson Zebra pickups. 7.45 (if I remember correctly) neck and 14.1 bridge. They sound really good for $30 a set. They're potted and everything, even comes with rings.
