I picked up an old Ibanez RG with an original Edge trem for $20. Rough shape, but I'm bringing it back from the dead. Pics later, already tore it down, starting to sand and smooth it. Probably just going to bondo the dings, smooth it, prime it, and paint it.

Cheers.

Alright, game plan.

needs a new neck. (old one was spraypainted and has a split clean down the middle) Gonna get this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-Ibanez-RG3 ... 8960377%26

Doing 2 coats of white as a base, and some kind of pink trim, then clear coating it.

Going to keep the pickups the same for now (not even sure what kind, look like OEM Dimarzios, tbh.)

Going to get a compensated nut so I don't have to use the locking one.

I've got a few more ideas. Later, though. For $20, I did well. The electronics work (tested before dismantled) The trem works (tested) and It's going to look great.

Now, the idiot that had it before me spraypainted it without taking it apart, and miraculously got none on the chrome section of the bridge. The inside of the bridge cavity, however, is a different story. The pickups were spray painted (but miraculously work) basically everything but the bridge was spraypainted.

this is going to be for when I have extra time and money, btw. I'll update when i update the guitar.

Both sides have been bondo'd. Only need to sand the back, then do the sides/intricate areas.

Cool, I have a project in about the same state. Is that a basswood body? It looks pretty good. You might shop around on the neck, I think you can beat that price.

I'm not sure what it is. I hope to have it painted by next weekend, though.

What's your project?

Mine is a mim strat. I have it 100% striped and 90% sanded. I need to sand it with some 250 now. Also, I am refreting it. I think I'll stain the body and then put a poly coat on it. The frets I have are stainless steel, really not that hard to work with. I have no idea what direction I'll go on the pickups yet. Every time I think I know what I want, it changes. You work a lot faster than me though, it will take me months to finish at the rate I work.

Nice! I love my Ibanez, hope you can bring that one back to its full glory. Here's some inspiration (although not an RG):

Hmmm...
Not sure about the locking trem without a locking nut approach.
But then, you could always add a locking nut later if you felt the need.

it's a JS-LTD (limited edition Joe Satriani model). I've only seen one other of these, I think they must be fairly rare. The little white badge on the 21st fret says 'custom made'. I had this one pre-ordered before they started shipping. It's a fantastic guitar, the neck is absolutely perfect for lead playing.

Maybe they based it on some aspects of the S. Nice guitar, though.

Here it is in its current state.

Body is not perfect, but I can live with it (for now) It's not as bad as it was.

There was decoupage on the back, so I removed it, only to find only 3 major dings. (dings that would compromise the paint.)

There are 3 dings (front and back) on the edges that need to be filled before I can paint it. I'll take care of that either today or tomorrow.

the back is obviously worse than the front.

First coat. I think I'm going to do 3, actually.

Also, it's snowing, perfect timing.

Thanks, I see what you mean, the output jack is in a different place, but they sure do look like cousins:

My friend's was black with a flamed maple top.

Also, don't think that this is going to be finished any time soon. I need to do the pink trim, need to rewire it, need to get the parts that were missing, and then get the neck, then the nut, then a new set of strings.

This'l take a month or 2.
