I am also going to throw out the solo in "Tonight She Comes" by The Cars.

Mick Taylor's beautiful slide solo in "Love in Vain" on the Rolling Stones' live album "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!"...one of the best slide solos ever in the history of forever.

I agree and would like to add "Time Waits For No One" by the same band.

The ending of Richard Thompson's live version of Tear Stained Letter. He starts trading solos with Clive Gregson then winds it up with insane string bending and fingerpicking then wanders off into a series of weird harmonies and ends up on his own planet of flatpicked madness. Just exquisite.

Since the subject of Vai came up, here's an early one with tons of feeling and nice phrasing, and just a tiny bit of showing off. I wish he'd go back to the 8 track studio and try another album like Flexible again. Oh and go back to using Fender strats!

Vai on "Call it Sleep": "This piece was written when I was in school. It was on the original demo audition tape I sent to Frank Zappa. It was re-recorded at Stucco Blue and now appears on Flexable. The sentiment of this song was inspired by a few friends who, in adolescence, met an unfortunate demise. There's something sad, powerful, mournful and beautiful that touches our hearts in such circumstances. I sought to capture those emotions with 'Call it Sleep.'"
