I got a Korean made 2003 Vox 15R in a trade and it sounds at least 3x as good as Chinese made one I used to have that I bought brand new in 2008. The guy I got the Korean Vox off of got it as a birthday gift and never played it once because he couldn't play guitar. I don't know why the Korean sounds so much better but it does.

Anyone else think one is better than the other?

btw, I traded the Chinese Vox for a Fender Tele! 8)

I don't know about the MIK and MIC Pathfinder 15Rs but mine was made in Vietnam and aside from Traynor TS-15 it is the most tubelike sounding and performing solid state amp that I have ever heard. It doesn't have any of the sterile, clinical tone that most solid states have but has the warmth that you usually only hear in tube amps.

That was quite a lop-sided swap,a 15R for a Tele,I only paid $130 for my 15R and I imagine that you most likely paid somewhere in that region-you did great on that deal.Do you have the guy's phone number still?I have some stuff that I can swap...lol.

RE the Traynor TS series: In the mid 70s Pete Traynor started R&D on a solid state amp that would sound and perform just like a tube driven amp.Traynor spent 6 years on this project and in 1980 introduced the TS series of amps starting with the TS-25 and in 1981 came out with the TS-15 and TS-50.I believe that he even made a 100W version too. For some unknown reason the TS series didn't catch on despite the fact that their sound and preformance was practically indistinguishable from a tube amp.The TS-15 had 2 specially engineered 8" speakers that were made by a now defunct Canadian, Toronto based ,company. The TS series also had an ingenious overdrive system, instead of pot it had a 3 position plastic rocker button that had a 5-10-15W setting and you could get the raunchiest kind of tubelike overdriven leads at a volume that wasn't much more than a pocket transister radio. If you ever see a TS series amp for sale, gobble it up and you'll be amazed by the sounds that can come from it.
