Dudes, I have so much to learn and so little time. I fight to get in 40 minutes of practice time (such as last night). Need to explore slide, alternate tunings, simply learn more songs, work on scales, etc.

Another thing: RECORDING.

What do y'all use to record the stuff some of you put on soundcloud? I want to do that.

My mustang amp came with abelton live. It seems like a complicated mess and I could not get it to work.

See, like look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9kV8Fq3jRk. Nothing against the guy who made the video, who did a great job, but are you #$@*&!% kidding me? Is abelton a #$@*&!% joke?

I want to play my guitar and record it as it sounds from the amp, Period.

Do y'all use one of these programs for iPhone?

Can my zoom Q3 video recorder which records in AAC be used for just audio and then put on soundcloud?

I just have not had time to figure out how to record, because--and I think rightly so--I have spent my precious minutes trying to learn to PLAY BETTER.

But I want to record some stuff.

I feel like I should use ableton, since I have it.

This reminds me of another topic, but I'll start another thread instead of making this one too long: we in 2013 are victims of technology, not beneficiaries, right?

If you have an Apple computer, then I highly suggest Garage Band.

What do I do?
Well to start, I bought myself an Apogee ONE. Apogee devices are all compatible with Mac/Garage Band, so that's a good start. With the ONE, you are able to plug your guitar directly into the computer and use the "amps" in Garage Band ... but even better yet, it has a built in microphone, so it's easy to record your own amp! I get pretty good results from this setup.

Good luck!

Here's a link: http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/one.php#quality
Turns out that the new model is also compatible with iPhone/iPad/iPod

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't have an apple, which causes problems in many areas of my life. I don't have funds for one right now and my PC laptop is 6 years old and outdated bigtime.

I use ableton on a junky old laptop and it does pretty well. I use a Line6 POD Studio UX1 as the USB interface to get the guitar signal to the laptop.

It takes some experimenting with ableton to get the hang of it but it's not that bad. Here are a couple sample tracks that I recorded with it using the UX1. It's far from pro quality but works great to get your ideas recorded and jam along with your own backing tracks.

My PC that I use for recording is 10 or more years old, but I am running old software, so it makes no difference to me. I run Cool Edit Pro and I use Reason for drum tracks, keys and other effects. I am running the guitar into a Line 6 Toneport and using the virtual amp effects that came with the Toneport.

If you have a "mic" input on your PC and a mic you can plug into it, cheapest and easiet way to record is to do it with your on-board PC software.
Stick the mic in front of the amp, click "record" and play away. You'll have to find the "wav" file created and convert it to mp3. Sometimes Windows Media Player has the ability to convert the files... sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, you'll need a program like "Switch".
SoundCloud lets you upload mp3 files to their site.

Use your Mustang with USB into Audacity.

i got the pod gx a couple of years ago, it came with a lite version of abelton. it's a little bit of a pain, but once you get the basics down it's pretty easy. just plug a mic into the pod, run the family out of the house for a bit, and crank the amp from across the room. :)
