Our band, The Mojo Roots had a great week in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge. We made it to the semi finals, met a lot of people, had fun, and thoroughly wore ourselves out in general.

Here's a basic run down of the week:

Days 1 and 2 - 120 bands competed in the quarter finals.
Day 3 - 40 bands advanced to the semi finals (of which we were one).
Day 4 - 10 bands advanced to the finals (and we did not).
There was a ton of good competition there, and we're really pleased to have made it to the semi finals our first time there. I think we'll try again next year too.

Here are some pics:

Dude, I was there! I wish you had posted earlier, I could've gone to see y'all. I was with my Houston buddies, and my band Texas 99 played in the Youth Showcase.

TGS - I did have another post from around October, and you and I talked about looking out for each other. As a matter of fact I asked several people on Beale St if they knew of Texas 99 and had no luck.
Next time we go I'll be aware of the schedule books that are available.
Hope you guys did well there TGS!

Now that you mention it, I do remember that. :( Oh well, remembering things isn't something I'm well known for. I'm glad you did well though! Although I may not have been able to see you anyway since I didn't get there until the day before we played, and after we played I went to go jam so I didn't get to see many of the other bands. Next year, even though I'm going to be too old for the youth showcase, I think I'm going to go anyway just to watch all the bands! If you're out there next year, I'll be sure and write it down somewhere so I don't forget!

Awesome! Congrats on making it to the semi-finals. I've been to Alfreds before. For those that don't know, wonered, or aren't sure, those neon letters spelling "STAX" on stage behind you were from the original marquee at Stax studio before they tore it down.

I wondered about the Stax sign when we were there, whether Alfred's was the original site. I researched Stax when I got home and found out that it wasn't located on Beale, but another street. It's as cool a stage backdrop as I've ever seen!

It is a very cool backdrop. No, Stax was/is on E McLemore. They essentially rebuilt it almost brick for brick in the same location.
