Or a used contemporary. The CT is assembled in china, but uses German made parts.

In that case the CT and the German made ones are basically the same, right?

If Paul had no other bass and he got one for free he would play it. His penury is part of the fabric of his being. Michael Jackson bought the Beatles catalogue because Paul wouldn't. Paul got pissed about it, because it was worth millions. He just couldn't bring himself to break the cobwebs on his cash.

McCartney has admitted many times in interviews that he's a cheapskate. I remember reading he also said that The Hofner he played was a cheap bass.

The CT is geared more towards the working musician. Is a different pains that's resists scratching better and a center sustain block that makes the guitar more stable. It is still a very light guitar and in most cases is a better sounding guitar. It has a nice woody tons but reacts to your playing more. I do have to warn you, hofner violin basses require violin bass strings. Most bass strings are too fat because the hofner uses guitar tuners on its basses. This is purely up to you, but I also recommend flatwound strings if the macartney sound is what you're going for.

To be honest I'm not interested in the Hofner because McCartney had one. I just like how it sounds and I like that it is lightweight. I'm more interested in a Jazz Bass or P Bass now anyway, but if I still had the chance to get a Hofner I definitely would.

OK, well thats cool. I think you would be happier with a fender as your first bass anyway.

Still not getting a Fender, though. I'm still in the predicament from before.

You got two words got me, eh? :D

Fascinating case you make for yourself there. Probably not the one you intended.

Here is the full story. It does require reading comprehension skills and some reading between the lines. Careful. I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself.
