I remember watching it with my family. My mother was focused only on their hair. Almost a half century ago, seems like yesterday. That's what started me wanting an electric guitar.

Watched it the US Embassy in Geneva... I was 10 y.o. My dad was in Int'l. business (3M Co.). The Embassy had a social gathering of ex-pat Americans for the event and my family attended.

Not sure whether it was transmitted live via Telstar or whether it was tape, but if tape, it was certainly within a few days of the actual event. I do remember that it was on a Sunday, very late in the evening, so it might have been live.

cheers!

George Harrison's Strat deserves a thread of its own, and I'm sure I would find one using the search button. Look at me trolling myself in the same sentence.

I live with a certain individual who actively hates the Beatles and its really starting to get me down. 'There is no accountability for taste' and all that... But to say they are just hyped up rubbish is just crazy.

EDIT: Thanks asgeirman!
I wish pop music sounded like this in 2013... You know rather than just looking a bit like it.

Never liked the Beatles. What was their longest concert 15 to 20 mins? Don't think they ever played a concert much longer than that.

I always remember when one of the Beatles asked a member of Led Zeppelin how long their set was and upon being told around the 2 1/2 HR mark they laughed and said their average set was 15 to 20 mins.

As a performing band they weren't in the same league as The Who, or The Rolling Stones even. IMO, i hasten to add.

Around 12:30 this morning I felt like kicking myself in the arse. The 49th Anniversary of the most pivotal and important day of my life came and went and I didn't realize it. On Feb. 9 1964 I decided at the tender age of 9,that I was going to be a musician and nothing nor nobody was going to discourage me.My 10th birthday was the next month and I made it known that nothing but a guitar would do.On the Ides of March I got my first guitar, which was a hand me down from my guitar playing uncle. It had strings like the mooring cables of a super tanker,1/2" action and a neck that felt that it came from a 4X4 fence post.I played that thing day and night sometimes until my fingers bled but I was determined to play well so I stuck to it.When I finally got a "good" guitar-A Harmony Archtone-my playing took off and my fingers flew over the strings because they were no longer hobbled by playing a poor guitar.I owe every thing to John Lennon and George Harrison for inspiring me to follow a path to the one thing that has brought immeasureable joy and satisfaction to my life and I will always love and be indebted to them for that.God Bless Them Both.

49 years ago that summer my trio started our 18 month gig doing weekends at the Cafe WHA??? in Greenwich Village. That was magic. Don't ask about Hendrix...he followed us about a month after we left but, in retrospect, during that 18 months the music scene had gone through an upheaval we can only begin appreciate in retrospect. While it was happening, we were totally unaware of it, but we were in it none-the-less. Around us were the Blues Project, The Lov'in Spoonful, Richie Havens, Mike Bloomfield, and on and on and on. Those streets at night were electric, and we walked them , between sets, awash in their energy. It was fabulous time.

as much as I hate to say it, nobody can beat the who live. but the stones....ehhhhhh....... the reason their sets were so short is so they weren't killed by their own fans.....they worked their $@! off before they got famous.

  Maybe the stones were a bad example then!!!

I was 11 when they came on the Sullivan show. I got my guitar and began lessons the next Xmas. One had to be alive then to know what popular music was and how the radio was often a joke. ''Purple People Eater'' and ''Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'' are some examples of the novelty crap used to fill in the time between the real music of the era. The Beatles and the British Invasion were the beginning of an amazing period of music and culture on the planet.

You had to be there.
