The other day I met a sophomore in my high school to check out his Squier Bronco bass. I picked it up and instantly started playing my favorite bass riffs from these songs:

---

The Animals - We Gotta Get Out of This Place

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUpBSvN1a50

The Animals - It's my life

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0KlOmrqdyY

The Doors - Break on Through (I covered the guitar

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJQwnAhXnBk

The Beatles - Come Together

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8LZGQ4MkvQ

---

I learned these riffs and more in under an hour. I think it's pretty amazing how I just picked up this bass and instantly knew how to play it! Keep in mind I did not have tabs or sheet music for those bass riffs, I found them out by playing around with the bass.

I honestly think - even though I love to play guitar - I was born to play bass.

Do you guys think I should switch over to bass? It feels like it comes naturally to me and it is a lot of fun, as well.

Thanks for your input if you decide to answer!

Up to you. You have to buy more gear, pay more for maintenance, etc. If you can take care of everything, do it.

And just because you love bass, doesn't mean you should stop playing guitar. I think just about every guitarist will pick up a bass in some way, shape, or form. Some will keep doing it, and some won't.

The choice seems clear to me.

Best of luck!

Cheers!

Yeah, I am going to keep learning guitar and keep learning bass, and in a couple of years or so I will see which one I will like better :D

you should just keep up with both. Eventually, you can sing and play drums and just record all of your own stuff.

1. I can't sing
2. I can't play drums
3. See 1
4. See 2

I couldn't play drums either. Just learn 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8, and build off of that. If you're into heavier stuff, learn blast beats.

Also, a lot of good rock singers didn't have pretty voices.

*Looks at Joey Ramone in signature picture*

The only thing I'm afraid of with learning guitar and bass at the same time is getting confused between the two. And also I don't know if I should spend $500 on the Hofner bass I was looking at when I only have a $140 Epiphone.

You have $500? split it. Get a used squier guitar, a used squier bass, and a used bass amp (assuming you have a guitar amp you like) Squier makes good stuff. Or even shop around and get used MIM if you can find it for a good enough price. Trust me, invest more in your gear all around, you'll be less frustrated with it in the end.

You haven't listened to Too Tough To Die, have you? It's probably their most powerful album, and it's my favorite album of all time.

Here's the thing. Good guitarists are a dime a dozen. Good bassists are a much rarer commodity and they're always in demand. Take a look in the local classifieds. You'll see guitarists looking for a band to join with and then you'll see bands looking for a bassist. If you're a smokin' guitarist you can always find work. If you're a smokin' bassist you can pick and choose. If you're an average guitarist you may have to take what you can get, if anything. If you're an average bassist you will still always find work.

That being said there is still a reason most guys want to play guitar rather than bass. One word. Glory. OK, two words. Chicks.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
