That's right but the extended warranties do not only extend warranty time, often they include "accident" insurance, like dropping your laptop, spilling liquid over electric appliances ... stuff like that.

Exactly, so if it does turn out to be a lemon you're only an accidental drop away from getting a new one or a different model.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Anyone actually collected from one of these fly-by-night third-party extended warrantee sellers when they "accidentally" dropped a guitar and broke it? Just wondering.

I wonder how they can make a profit if any time someone drops a guitar and breaks it, they have to pay up the replacement cost.

Mobile phones are another where you can pay a 'phone insurance' against accidental and theft too..

With my phone company, this also includes warranty. However, if you 'drop or throw it' intentionally for your own benefit to make a claim for a new model, this is insurance fraud. I would imagine the same for warranties also, however down here a warranty only covers manufacturing and fault defects.

The only place where I ever by extended warranties is The Source (Canada's Radio Shack) their warranties are very reasonably priced and are 3 years,no questions asked. They cover accidental breakage and even loss or theft.I have had trouble with the external antennaes for my Sirius radio and have replaced 3 of them at no extra cost.

With most electrical and mechanical purchases the manufacturers warranty is sufficient to cover anything that goes wrong with the product. With most products,if anything is going to go wrong or break down, according to Consumers Reports Magazine most problems that are going to occur in a product will most likely take place in the first year. Most manufacturers warranties are for one year at the very least and even more for vehicles. In most cases extended warranties are a waste of money and if you spent the money that you would spend on a warranty on regular service and maintenance, you'd be much better off.

i get my new blues deluxe reissue tomorrow. the sales guy just couldn't believe i wasn't going to get the warranty. i told him the 5 years from fender was good enough, and since i don't play in places where it could get easily damaged, i am sure i'll be fine.

don't think i'll be sleeping much tonight!

Precisely. in your case, I wouldn't have bought a warranty for it- however it does give piece of mind if you were gigging heavily for the long term.

Good choice and congrats- I hope to see pics!! :)
