Hello forum. My girlfriend's dad recently had two guitars and a banjo given to him, and I'd like to find out more about them, particularly when they were made. There is an electric and an acoustic.

The acoustic is an Encore, model no. 857, made in Japan. That's all I could find on it besides a sticker on the back of the headstock that says "steel reinforced neck."

The electric is a Teisco, Model No. ET-200, Serial No. 3922, also made in Japan. I can't identify the type of bridge on it, and hopefully I'll get some pics up soon.

Any info on these guitars would be appreciated, and I'm curious to know the value of the electric. Both seem to be pretty good quality, except for a lot of wear and tear on the acoustic, but the electric is in almost perfect shape.

Thanks in advance!

Most of the Teisco guitars I see on Craigslist sell between $100 and $200 sometimes more to the suckers on Ebay. Hard to say without pics.

Teisco was a first electric for a lot of kids growing up in the 60s and was largely a low budget beginners guitar but however they did make some guitars that are getting to be worth over $1,000 these days but they are the very rare models with a lot of mother of toilet seat and heavy metallic paint jobs. Some of the most desireable ones had as many as 4 pickups and numerous switches and controls. As previously stated on another post most sell for around $100-$200 these days.A lot of Teiscos are being used by some pretty well know musicians as a matter of fact Jeff "Skunk" Baxter used an old Teisco for some of his best known lead breaks on some of the early Steely Dan albums.

Encore is an entry level guitar that is made usually as copies of famous North American guitars and aren't really usually of high quality-they are basically student or beginner guitars.

If you could supply some pix we may be able to get a better idea of the worth of these guitars.Cheers.

The ET-200 is one of the most common ones. In good shape, you have no problem getting $175 at least. In so-so shape, you could probably get $50-$100. All depends on the shape.

I bought a Japanese student guitar, a 1967-68 Norma, for $100. Change the tuners to Klusons (they're compatible, you only have to drill one hole for one of the E strings for them to fit properly, just the way they're spaced) and set it up with 8s or 9s and you have a little monster. I like it because of how light and small it is. Plus, it's a head turner, if you play in public. I always get compliments when I take it to school, mostly from stoners and other guitar freaks. As a guitar player with a few years under my belt, I don't think I could ever sell this guitar. I'm in love with it, simply because it's really got a personality and a sound of its own.
