Also, this is far from a "wall of noise" or "wailing about Lucifer". In fact, it is some of the most carefully composed rock-related music I've ever heard. Top-notch songwriting.

Also, I'm surprised I haven't mentioned it. They always deserve to be mentioned. I'd kill to see them live, but they only do local gigs in Detroit.

No, Sabbath did not do what Satan's Satyrs do. No, more drugs would not have caused them to do so. Yes, Satan's Satyrs are influenced by Sabbath. No, it is not trying to be edgy. No, the lyrics about Satan, in this band especially, are not meant to be taken seriously. No, young men are not their only fans. No, it is not just a "wall of noise". No, even if it were, this would not be a bad thing. And finally, YES, it is music, regardless of what a bunch of Beatle-worshipping (or exclusively radio-listening) jackasses have to say on the matter.

Oh, and more things you won't be able to show me in 77: Black metal, death metal, grindcore, chillwave, post-hardcore, noise rock, stoner/dessert rock, crossover thrash

I can't stand the Beatles. I might be old, but I can still get into metal. But it's descent into sludge and the other 400 sub-genres young blokes have created, just sounds like a mess. Lots of people said the same thing about Hendrix. Even so, none of that stuff is new - it's old stuff played louder and faster.

Sabbath never took the luciferic stuff seriously either; it was all theatre and pantomime. But it made parents crack the #$%#, so the kids loved it. Nothing much has changed. It's just got louder and less intelligible. My young kids (5 & 9) love Sabbath, they see how funny it is. Adults get into a social panic over it.

I was gonna start this exact same thread a few days ago when I posted about Tyler Bryant and his band.

Rock is not dead. That much is obvious. Not only is rock not dead, it's not even close to dead!!! There is more great rock music being recorded and performed live than ever in the history of the world.

What's dead is FM radio, Ed Sullivan, and MTV telling people what to listen to. So what's dead is 3 or 4 bands being HUGE and being all anyone knows about. There can never be another Beatles, Who, and Rolling Stones. We have choices now.

Now we have pandora, youtube, this forum and others like it, the internet, the internet, iTunes ("you might like" function), etc etc.

Rock is as strong as anything can be in this crumbling economic world.

And by the way, even the big "corporate" record companies continue to allow tons of guitar-based music to be released, obtained and heard.

Music is in a good place right now, IMO.

More positivity and I just love this discussion.

Youtube. This forum. We here (us). We all conclusively prove that rock is not dead. WE *are* rock!!!! Look how much we love it. We sit here all day talking about it.

We’re not alone. Look at youtube. The very thing some people make fun of IS rock: legions of people of all ages, from age 5 to 85, putting videos of themselves playing cover songs on youtube. Doing their best. Rocking out. Loving the music. Some of them are actually good, get discovered, put music on bandcamp.com, sound cloud. Youtube.

“The internet might save the people.”

If you can’t tell, I REALLY love youtube. Of all the amazing internet inventions the last 10 years, it might be the best. EVERYTHING that has happenened in the world since 1960 and sometimes going further back is there. Unlike when I was a kid sitting there hoping MTV would play a video I liked, I can simply pull up ANY video, right now, and show it to my young children, which I do constantly. My children are getting an education, and have since birth, in Hendrix, Clapton, Muddy Waters, ZZ Top, Black Keys, Jack White, Madonna, Tina Turner, Heart, Aerosmith, Avril Lavigne, Prince, LL Cool J, the Rolling Stones, Puddle of Mudd, Michael Jackson, Beatles, Led Zep, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Britney Spears and her type of stuff, Grant Green and Wes Montgomery jazz, Dave Brubeck, and everything in between. Millions of other kids are too, I’m sure.

Anything you want to see, pretty much, you can find it on youtube. Absolutely amazing the access we have now. Do you want to see what Wes Montgomery looked and sounded like when he played live in 1965? Here you go (full show): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z7h2nkmO7k.

I think it is nothing less than ASTOUNDING that I can find this video in 0.07 seconds of searching.

FM radio and MTV are dead as far as their influence telling people what they may hear. Rock itself is not dead.

The only problem is there will be so much rock that one will have to be REALLY REALLY good to get noticed, if that’s one’s goal.

But I read a great article just last night in Q music magazine, about how music is there for the music, even if you don’t hit it big.

We ARE rock and we are alive.

Cool post, thanks for the link. Wes is the best. 8)

I knew that I posted on this thread, :D

That's pretty good music, I'm going to have to check them out some more. Thanks for the link, Floyd!

...and please NO MORE NEW MUSIC FROM CLASSIC ROCK ARTISTS.

I can't get behind this statement at all. Granted, I wouldn't want to have to endure another Springsteen release but most of the other older bands knew how to make music and I'd be willing to hear some more.

Well let's see:

You're right on The Boss "Wrecking Ball" sucked
2 new songs on Rolling Stones Grrrr sucked
McCartney's attempt to sing the Great American Songbook and his last rock album Chaos And Creation both unmemorable
Bob Dylan Tempest is this in any way in the same league as Blood On The Tracks or even Infidels not to mention nearly every album he release in the 60s
I hated the last Who Album Endless Wire. if Who's Next is a 10 then Endless Wire is negative 1000

It's all a matter of taste. I didn't grow up in the 60s and the 60s music has always sounded very old to me. Not bad, just from an other era. Springsteen still puts on excellent live shows. I for one liked Wrecking Ball, but hated Working On A Dream. Magic was great Seeger Sessions fun but The Rising boring (not bad). As for the Stones, I buy their new releases but don't bother listening to them. Prefer the older stuff. Same with Dylan but that is mostly because I can't stand his singing/voice anymore. It was okay before. The music may be as good as in the past, but I just can't listen to it anymore. Never was a Beatles fan either (too smooth voices and "too many harmonies").

There are very few new rock acts I like, and I find myself listening more to alternative rock or country rock (like Ryan Bingham). I never cared much for pop music and are not about to start.

Rock will never die. It comes in phases. I've seen it come and go. It'll be big again. I think the digital way of recording will fade too. People will want to record live again in time.
