I just read a message from Jacqueline Ryan-the head of The Troggs Fan Club-that lead singer Reg Presley died this morning surrounded by family in his Andover home. It is no surprise to anyone who has read my posts that Reg Presley and Chris Britton of the Troggs were among my biggest influences. The first song that I learned on guitar was Wild Thing and I always insisted on doing Troggs covers in every group I was ever in and even did Troggs covers when I played solo. This has hit me just hard as losing a family member because he played such a huge part in me evolving into the musician that I am today.Thankyou Reg and God Bless You.

Guitslinger...Sorry to hear about his passing. The Troggs certainly had some great songs and is there any musician who grew up in the 60's/70's DIDN'T play Wild Thing at least once? Nope!

R.I.P Mr. Reg Presley.

Just the other night we played a Hendrix medley that included "Purple Haze", "Red House", "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Wild Thing". Been awhile since I played WT.

Thanks for the great tuneage, Reg......you'll be missed!

RIP

:(

Reg wrote "Love Is All Around" which is a great song and has been covered probably as much as "Wild Thing." I think the Wet Wet Wet cover went to #1 in the UK some decades after the Troggs single failed to hit #1. Really a great song and that must have been a great feeling for Reg for it to make #1, even if it took a cover to do it. Good from the heart lyrics.

While most people think of "Wild Thing" when they hear the name The Troggs, it actually was a cover. Reg's "Love Is All Around" was to me their overall best song. I never much liked "With A Girl Like You" even though it was a bigger hit for the Troggs than "Love Is All Around" and was a number 1 in the UK.

Reg was one of the first songwriters of the 60s to get some of his songs banned from airplay in some parts of England and especially in the Bible Belt of the US. His songs "I Can't Control Myself" and "Night Of The Long Grass" and even the beautifully poignant and gentle love song "A Little Girl" was banned in many places because it dealt with the angst of a teenage couple being forced apart with the birth of a child. His songs wouldn't even cause someone to bat an eye these days but back in the day they were considered vile and lascivious.I would recommend to anyone who hasn't heard The Troggs or only has heard their hits,go out and buy some of their albums such as the Wild Thing and Love Is All Around albums.Reg wrote some fabulous rockers with a hypnotic primitive beat that just stirred the primal urges.Songs such as "Gonna Make You","I Want You""Girl In Black" and "Lost Girl" have a driving percussive beat that just grows on you more and more each time you hear them.

Thanks for the "heads down". The Troggs were a great band, last saw them at a Times Square New Year's Eve show in 2006, very lively. Back in the day my band played a show with them at Max's Kansas City, nice fellows. The guitar player showed me how to play "Love Is All Around"! It's on topic so I hope it's not out of place to mention our new album has a cover of "With Girl Like You". Reg Presley really was an influential singer and songwriter. Floating around on the net there is an mp3 of an endless, excruciating studio argument among the Troggs, I think it's called the Troggs Tapes or something. Rest in Peace Reg.
