The highly esteemed Lady Armadillo is vaguely tolerant of my obsession, but with four solidbody guitars, four acoustics (two flattop dreadnoughts, a catgut/classical, and an archtop), a metal-bodied resonator, a four-string bass and a mandolin, (not to mention pedals and amps and microphones and harmonica gear) the limitations of her tolerance are quickly being approached. Each guitar I buy is one step closer to that invisible line demarking "ENOUGH!" in her mind.

However, Fender has offered a few guitars that really, really tickle my fancy lately.

First, they put out the Squier Vintage Modified Surf Strat.

http://www.fender.com/squier/series/vintage-modified/vintage-modified-surf-stratocaster/

...besides pictures of the Vaughan Brothers' matching white Danelectro-pickup-loaded Stratocasters  (made by Charley Wirz), I first saw an actual, live, in-the-flesh Lipstick-caster back in 1991...it was in the hands of señor Charlie Sexton. It looked cool, it sounded cool, it WAS cool. I just never had a Strat that I was willing to (or could afford to) do that to...

Then Fender started offering that guitar for cheaper than the price of a decent set of lipstick pickups...and from all reports, they're pretty dang good guitars. That makes it very hard on me not to jump into a brash decision.
At this point, I passed on purchasing one of these, hoping to find a used one or a spectacular deal (to offset the inevitable "discussion" a bit).

Then, last month I discovered this:

http://www.youtube.com/embed/jqnCNwcvYSs

The Fender finally fulfilled my longtime wish to have an affordable Bass VI...I've been gassing for one of these for many years. I've even broached the topic with the lovely and talented Lady Armadillo, with no negative feedback (as of yet)...so it's almost 100% sure that one of these critters will be in my herd very soon.

Then, today I find out about this:

http://www.fender.com/series/folk/reso-tele/

Go ahead, click on the link. I'll wait.

Are you back?

Dad-gummit-to-Hades, that thing's awesome!

I have seen a few different companies attempt to make such an instrument, with varying degrees of success. But the idea of a Fender Reso-Tele (it even has a cool name) just sets my little heart a-twitter.

I'm very happy with my Dean Chrome G acoustic/electric resonator, with the exception of the action as it goes up the neck (which has been adjusted about as much as it can be). It makes it a little hard to fingerpick/fret chords past the second position, but overall, I'm not complaining.

But if this new offering plays like a Telecaster--hot diggity dog! I'm gonna have to do some groveling at some point.

Now, if Fender would just make an affordable metal-bodied Reso-Tele, I'd really be up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

You really are aiming for a replay of the Alamo or Custer's Last Stand.... :?:

I would say pick " Only One " .... One that is which is the most favorable.
Not to suggest underhanded tactics  But is the Armadillo Tween on your side :?:

You are indeed on a perilous journey, but I can sympathize since the Aerodyne Strat will be arriving to it's new 8) home in March. This one gave me major issues of GAS and then I found out there actually is a twin as an Aerodyne Tele ..... :?

Since Lady Armadillo is of Mexican ancestry, the "Alamo" analogy is good...no quarter would be given, and Texian would survive.

Wives, indeed, are a significant limitation on fun. All the money spent on them for useless nothings could buy about two Gibson Les Pauls a month.

My bride (of 30 years come 2/12) made me sign a contract after I bought my Strat... contract was that I'd never buy another guitar. :(
Last year my 4 sons chipped in together and bought me a Dobro

looks pretty nice alongside my Eterna 6 string acoustic, Ovation 12-string,Strat, Tele, Penco SG, and my Flamenco... (I think that's all of em...

Alas, perhaps the only safe route left is to let something go before trying something new. :?

The problem with electric guitar is it's fun to try new things! (Ofcourse it goes without saying having a nice strat will always remain a constant.)

I find as my personal playing improves and changes stylistically I'd like to 'nurture that change'.

I can't even throw that in her face--she is very thrifty and seldom (if ever) spends frivolously. Neither of us "blow" money, but she is a über-saver to the Nth Degree. We have nice things, and many luxuries, but we generally found them on sale or used...she stretches a dollar so far that George Washington is screaming.

She doesn't really like jewelry that much--and the pieces she does like are understated and elegant as opposed to big and bling-y and over the top...she likes things that are valuable rather than expensive...and as much as I comment on her shoes, she isn't crazy on that front, either.

Our only disagreement regarding money is the fact that I will spend it if it's for an item I need/want, and she (many times) won't--unless the purchase is an absolute necessity or such a good deal that it can't be passed up. I use that to my advantage when I find one of those amazing deals (like the Danelectro DC-3 Pro for $100 or the Pignkse amp for $30 or the Korg 16-track digital recorder for $400), but deals like that are few and far between...especially on newly-issued items such as the three I featured here.

Tru dat, but I have purged all the "extra" guitars, pedals, microphones, etc...the ones that didn't really "do it" for me. What I have left is the truly special instruments (ones that are unique/sentimental/great sounding/unreplaceable), and a stable of instruments that can "get me anywhere" sound-wise or stylistically...

I've built up a stable of instruments that each have that "certain something", but they're also each unique enough from one another that if we need a maple-necked Tele playing rhythm behind a mahogany-bodied axe with humbuckers (my G&L F-100) and a rosewood-fretboarded Stratocaster playing intertwining lead lines, I got it covered...same thing, acoustic-wise.

...and the four or five things left on my GAS list are all very unique, looks and sonically, so it just boils down to materialism on my part...

Thank you Toronado!
Soooo... Sire-madillo... sounds like you're hitched to the same type of fair-maiden-madillo as my own. VERY FORTUNATE! You seem to be wrestling with the same thoughts that run thru my own mind every time i want to spend some $ on something I believe the Mrs will not approve of.
Know what I find out most of the time? She knows me and understands me, and usually is ok with it... as long as it's not going to break the bank.
All 3 at the same time?... that might be pushing it just a bit tho.
I'm checking the +1 box on what 53mag advised... pick one bro.
