I picked up a couple of P-90s from St. Blues for super cheap while I was in Memphis. I have an MIM Standard Strat in desperate need of better pickups, and an MIM Standard Tele in desperate need of new pickups. So the question is, who gets the P-90s?

P90's in a Strat is an amazing thing...especially if the pups you bought retain the sparkle and spank a Stratocaster usually puts out.

Having said that, I absolutely love the P90-in-the-neck-position on a Tele...I did that to my MIM Tele Special, and it's one of the reasons that it's my go-to guitar.

I guess I didn't help you one bit, did I? :?

I say Strat.

I have a Gibson LP Tribute with P90's. I'd go with the Strat. It would be Strat on steroids tone. Way too over the top for a Tele IMO.

Why do many people assume that a Tele can't go "over the top"?

Albert Collins, Joe Strummer, Danny Gatton, Tab Benoit, Keith Richards, Billy Gibbons (on occasion) and a million others are all Tele players who regularly go outside the "conservative" (playing-wise, not politically), low-key image that some assign to the "simpler" Telecaster design.

Obviously, Fender agrees--there are several models of Telecaster (both Squier and Fender) that sport P-90's.

Having said that, I voted for her to put them in her Strat... :P

Indeed. Here's a Tele going over the top, though it doesn't have P90s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81h0F-14QA0

Can I vote for one in each?

Funny, the votes and the posts don't seem to correlate. For the record I voted Tele, it just seems right. I know I love mine.

P90 in the neck of the Tele.

P90 in the middle of the Strat. (assuming you won't be scared to carve up your PG and it has a swimming pool route.)

Not saying a Tele can't go over the top, I just like the twang and serious cut of a good Tele. P-90's are crazy beasts.

I was thinking, and I just realized that I almost have enough spare strat parts to make a whole new guitar! All I really need is a neck, which I can buy at a wholesale price through the shop where I work. And I use that old Eric Johnson guitar body I still have lying around.

So it will definitely feature the P-90s, but should I just do P-90s in the neck and bridge, do the P-90s plus a single strat pickup in the middle, or do a humbucker in the bridge and put the P-90s in the neck and middle?
