From a recording last Summer in Santa Barbara. Using my strat set on the 2nd position between the bridge and middle pickups with moderate gain on a Fender Amp. Written by our drummer.

Here's an original. Vocals are fairly lame but you can hear the strat clean in the background. Home recording.

Phil415 - nice stuff, really good clean stratty sound there!

I'm enjoying this thread, it's nice to hear people playing guitars instead of discussing the best way to polish them.

Storm!... Holy (insert obscure noun here)! very nice stuff! Nice to have a lead vocal with some presence too.

and Phil, nice, clean guitar work... "one click up from the bottom" is my favorite Strat position.

... and a humble "hats off" to GilgaFrank for starting this thread. Right now I'm gonna check out some of the other posts I've missed.... (did I see a thread about rock being dead?... not around here apparently!) see ya in awhile!

Hey Frankie, thanks so much for your expletive!! :)))

I did have a technical question for the Strat users. Do you count your switch position from the Tone controls up or from the strings down? I've seen both referenced. P1 for some is hard down to the tone controls but for others that is P5. I think right now I'm using from the strings down as my reference.

Keep the SC accounts coming! I've got everyone followed. Some really nice tones y'all are getting.

To me, bridge and middle is position 2. That and the neck pickup is about all I ever use except the occasional foray into bridge pickup only. But then I'm weird, I never use tone controls and I rarely touch the volume control. I was even thinking of rewiring my Strats with 3-way switches and no tone controls just to get Bridge - Bridge + Middle - Neck pickup selection.

Also BUMP for more soundclouds or soundclicks or bandcamps, I want to hear more from you people!

I didn't see a soundclick thread so I'll put this here. Stormy Monday from band rehearsal last night. Recorded on a hand held Tascam. I do my best Duane Allman on the solo. Embarassingly that's me singing.

I haven't recorded much as of late so this is all months old. Kind of all over the place as far as types of music. Really enjoying this thread though! Some very talented people here. Wow!

Is there one of these already? If so, point me at it. If not - post your soundclouds, I want to hear you people stratocasting and telecasting and whatever-else-casting.

What's that? You want my soundcloud links? Well ok then, a few selected ones ...

that Britney cover is great. vocals sound like The Cars and guitar at the end sounds like Santana.

Ok so on soundcloud it is okay to post COVERS as long as you created the recording, and of course you're not selling it?

When it talks about owning it, it means you created THAT COVER, right, not that it has to be original songs?

Yes, you can cover peoples' songs but not sample their recordings.

EDIT: SC copyright info page has this:

For music uploads:

Can you answer “yes” to all of the following questions?

  • Did you compose the music yourself?
  • Did you write the lyrics yourself?

So I'd guess they don't want people uploading covers. Which kind of leaves me and a LOT of other people open to takedown notices.

thanks. it doesn't seem that way when one reads the page about copyright. seems like you have to have written permission from Britney Spears' label to do a Britney cover.

See my edited post, seems I was wrong and their T&C's don't allow for covers (in the same way that youtube don't allow people to upload full albums and movies ;))

For Soundclick, my understanding is covers are okay if they are listed in a subgenre as a cover. That's what I did for my post with Stormy Monday and I haven't gotten any kind of notice.

According to the rights associated with online 'software' such as Soundcloud, it has been determined by organizations (FCC?) that SC is in fact a 'publishing medium' so they've deemed it that you are in fact broadcasting and publishing hence why they're not reallllly open to covers.

I think the RIAA was hoping to go after these types of sites for payment of mechanical royalties and their lobbying got sites like SC deemed as publishers. As you know the RIAA doesn't like creativity....they like control.

Anyway, you can upload covers but be prepared to have them taken down I think. There's a TON of remixes on there and I haven't seen many taken down so take that for what you will! :) That was my understanding of it. But I don't think it's been legally settled.
