I've been the singer forever in my band and picked up an MIM Strat a couple years ago and really got into modding it: Callaham bridge and tremolo block, hand-wound pickups by Don Mare and even a neck plate with the Fender "F." So anyway, our guitar player heard those pickups and even though he's mostly a Les Paul and Tele guy, he fell in love with them. So for his birthday last March, we all pitched in and bought him a set of the Don Mare Super Sports for Strat http://www.buckcannon.com/.

Next thing you know, our bass player's 50th comes around and well, he always wanted an Antigua P-Bass and Fender rereleased them last year, so all the band members and a few other musicians pitched in and got him one for his 50th, and well, needless to say, his eyes about popped out of his head when we gave it to him.

So then our drummer hit his 40th a couple months ago and yeah, he plays guitar too and he always wanted a Tele Deluxe with wide-ranging humbuckers so we all pitched in and got him that.

Yeah, he was stoked.

So tonight, another guitar player who's a good friend of ours is having HIS 50th, and you guessed it, we got him something too. A Classic Player Tele Black Dove in Crimson Red Transparent (still has the plastic covering on the pick guard). He's going to get it tonight at a surprise party and I'm thinking he'll be pretty happy too...

I'll let you know how it goes. Eventually we'll probably have each paid enough to buy our own guitar but then again we'll probably each have one as well and we'll have the pleasure of seeing each other's faces light up that many times...

Cheers!

The bro was hyped on the guitar. His girlfriend bought him a nice hard case to go with it so we made him think that was all he was getting for a while until we pulled it out.

Those Fender P-90s (DE-9000 Black Dove™ Single-Coil) sound awesome! Only problem is his son is a real shredder so there's going to be some back and forth on who plays the Black Dove in the family...

http://www.fender.com/series/classic-player/classic-player-tele-deluxe-black-dove-maple-fingerboard-crimson-red-transparent/

And to all who are offering to sit in with the band. We can always use some extra players, but you've got to get about 32 years tenure before you're eligible for the Birthday Guitar Club...

If I get any photos of him getting it, I'll be sure to post 'em.

Cheers!

Many of us witnessed as new, what you young'ins know today as 'vintage': Stratocaster, Jazzmaster, and Jaguar.

Nice .... But in 32 years ..... The only thing I will want to rock is my bones in my rocking chair overlooking Mount Mansfield.

Needless to say, he was pretty happy... His girlfriend bought him a hard case to go with the Tele so we had her give that to him first and he got all excited and then there was nothing in it. And were like all, "Sorry bro, that's all we could do."

He put on a glad face and said well I can use this for one of my other guitars. Then I reached around and handed it to him and said, "See if this will fit in there."

Funny thing is that his number one guitar 30-something years ago was another Tele Deluxe but with the wide-range humbuckers. This time he wanted P-90s though (he's got a few others with humbuckers now) and he was actually going to buy one for himself the next day.

Here's a shot of the new one and the well-used one side by side...
