 Editing myself out of the religious/philosophic debate.
Very interesting indeed but a bit far out, in retrospective.

This is the weirdest thing. I was just thinking about pming chrisconsin saying I was blocking him because I didn't want to look at his religious symbol. Then I see this thread. :?

The Fender Lounge:
This forum is for open public discussion of all things Fender and general music-related subjects.

Guess not

Rules... yawn

GTG mate Chrisconsin seems a decent intelligent chap, I think you'd be missing out by blocking him. His point that it was a symbol of the early church, though well before the invention of Catholicism, is correct. And in truth, I'd prefer to see it than have a correct way up cross paraded at me by some religious robot that feels a pressing need to hammer it's programming into my head.

As for cross orientation, the St Georges cross is on it's side? What does that mean? That we're all required to be able to read a road map? Is it a symbol of a malevolent cult of orienteers?

I don't mind what that cross stands for. Each to their own. I'd much rather an intelligent unbiased educated explanation of what it is, than a delirious hillbilly religious fool telling me I need to be saved before I fry in the depths of hell, in order to scare me out of 10% of what I earn.
-Just sayin.

All the aforementioneds taken into consideration on the merits they all have. Nothing like a tad bit of controversey and enlightenment in the mix. I suppose we can now return to our ordinary business pending the posting of anything new and unusual to stir the soup once more.

Actually, I´ve noticed that as a group,
the Forum has learned from earlier mishaps,
and there is more consideration these days,
lest the threads get locked out.

I do love it when it gets all convoluted, but
just now being reminded about the grounds
cooled me off.

I guess I kind of started it by asking about that avatar, my bad. But on the bright side, so far we have an intelligent discussion about it, not an argument. Maybe some hope left for the human race?

Yes I agree about the psychology behind avatars,
as we are all projecting something and feedback
is bound to arise.
I´m not happy with mine because I forgot to reverse
the pic and it looks lefty. Now I can´t seem to manage
to succesfully edit my profile. OMG how uncomfortable
for my egotistic personna!

I think the Forum is an extraordinary place,
and Hope for the Human Race is in
Understanding, and getting a Strat,
which go hand in hand! :D

Several of you probably know that I'm a Christian and a religious person, but I rarely bring it up (directly) on-line.

I publicly talk about my faith on a regular basis (some of you might figure out what religion I am by that statement alone), but this is not necessarily the time or place to discuss this (large, central) portion of my life. It would devolve into a constant defense of my beliefs or a correction of other's misconceptions of my faith, and that's against Forum rules and policies.

I am always interested (and respect) in other people's beliefs (whether I agree or not), but I expect the same amount of respect in return...I think that's fair, don't you?

There are only three circumstances that I have a hard time respecting a person's beliefs:

(1) If they chose their faith based solely on familial or geographical location...if you don't inspect and examine your own faith (as well as others), how can you be certain there is a basis for that faith?

(2) This is the worst one (in my opinion), someone choosing a faith based on business or romantic reasons..."This church has many successful people with which I can network, so I'll go there..." -or- "My girlfriend's/fiancee's family won't accept me unless I convert, so..."

Wealth-based ministries fall into this category; the hucksters that say, "In the name of Jesus, God wants you to rich! Faith in God will make you have a bigger home, a nicer car and an expensive watch!" :x
Interesting--Jesus was a poor carpenter who didn't "have a place to rest his head..."
And most of his Apostles were the working poor...
So what were they doing wrong in their faith?
The Bible neither condemns nor praises wealth, but it warns of the dangers and seduction of the "love of money."

(3) If the liturgy/dogma of that religion has strayed far, far away from the "sacred" text the faith claims to be based upon. (I put sacred in quotes because while I respect other people's beliefs and texts, I don't necessarily believe that all those texts/beliefs are from a truly sacred source).

Ok, this is probably getting waaaaaaay too close to the line Mr. Traweek allows us to walk, so I'll reign myself in before he has to.
