You know...I just kind of like talking about guitars and other stuff with fellow guitar people.

If something "off topic" is being posted to the board and you feel this is a serious infringement on your right to read only guitar related items I'd recommend you write a strongly worded letter to fender and/or your state representative.

A really nervous guy walks into a doctor's office exclaiming, "Doc, you gotta help me. I'm a teepee, I'm a wigwam, I'm a teepee, I'm a wigwam!" The doctor replies, "I know what your problem is, you're too tents."

I'll give you what you were expecting:

Having two degrees, one in religious students and another in psychology (along with a master's in counseling) I have developed a fondness for religious iconography. The concept of the upside down cross (or "the Cross of Saint Peter") dates back to the crucifixion of St. Peter. Feeling he was not worthy to be crucified as Christ was, he asked to be crucified upside down. It has become a symbol of humility is used regularly in Catholic imagery. At one point Pope Benedict was seen wearing this cross and other faith groups claimed this was a clear indication that the Catholic church is actually harboring satanists and that the anti-christ is clearly coming through a Pope. This misunderstood practice is actually the result of Popes seeing themselves as "successors" of Peter in terms of leading their group.

Beyond this, I'm a Secular Humanist (meaning nice atheist). I think creating conversation around all faith based practices is the only way to a mutual appreciation and understanding of our bases of (or lack their of) faith.

Well, that and some girl I went on a date with years ago said it was impossible for me to have morals or the ability to raise children knowing I was an atheist. She proceeded to get hammered and try to take me home. I win.

Surely you know the symbol is way more known a different way.

It reminds me of this Facebook post, read the last response with the yellow star:

Yeah, that shock value stuff is dumb. I'm heavily tattooed and had ears bigger than that at one point. What's interesting about those folks is that they intentionally piss people off so they can make irrational demands to be accepted and appreciated. Whatever. People choose to get tattoos, piercings, wear certain symbols, etc, and fail to realize they take on any reaction that comes with it, and honestly, that people don't have to like it.

People don't have to like an upside down cross. Ultimately, I find it kind of interesting and think it represents something meaningful.

The swastika argument is a bit different. It was adopted in recent history to represent systematic killing.

The upside cross was unintentionally misrepresented by the televangelism generation that preaches from a book it knows nothing about.
