I have been taking time to preview Justin Sandercoe's lesson format both on justinguitar.com and youtube as well. I really like his format and no doubt he
will make learning a great deal of fun,...compared to the teacher I had over ten years ago.
What surprised me,though,is that he recommends that beginners start with electric guitar as an acoustic will be a little harder due to higher action, especially on cheap acoustics(,...like those bargain acoustics you see in some music stores with names I have never heard of). I am thinking of a Fender Standard Stratocaster and Blues Junior amp to begin with.

Justin has a beginner's song book that has some good songs for a beginner to learn,...and we're not talking "baby" about songs like "Mary Had A little Lamb",.."Go tell Aunt Rhody",either,...we're talking songs like "Love Me Do',...'I Walk the Line",..."The Gambler',..."Folsom Prison Blues",etc. Though they might be simplified versions, they can still sound good for beginners to learn,...seen some of the youtube videos of the lessons/songs and Justin makes them fun. Justin has them arranged in stages,so as you learn more and progress to the next stage, the songs are more challenging.

Why the Strat over Tele all the sudden? Well,...I have been doing some homework and research as to the weight and body design differences between both guitars, and the Stratocaster looks like it will be lighter and will blend in with your body better due to the way it is sculpted compared to some of the sharper lines of the Telecaster. I still like the Telecaster sound,though,...but the Stratocaster has a nice sound as well and will fit with what I have in mind to do,...mainly play rhythm guitar, but can still serve as lead guitar, too,if I choose. So,...having said all that,...I believe it is safe to say that Justin has given me the inspiration to start up again, and I have to say 'Thanks,Justin,...you have given me a reason to come back to guitar for another try!" I have my guitar and amp picked out at Sweetwater Sound in Ft. Wayne,In.,...just a matter of saving the money for it!

Champion 20 amp

I learnt most of the fundamentals of Guitar from justinguitar.com. From all of the open chords to barre chords to power chords and on to triads. So simple and easy, the videos are superb.

I do agree about starting with the Electric. Two years ago, when my son was 8 and asked if I could teach him how to play Guitar, he was put off by the pain in his fingers from the accoustic Guitar.
