So I recently bought this Cyclone I, which basically is what it would look like if a strat and a Mustang had a lovechild. I'm really digging this guitar the look the feel the simplicity. But if you're well familiar of the guitar you might also know that the pickups suck. I figured I would swap the atomic humbucker for something else I have laying around and worry about the neck pup later.

I have two options to choose from either my Seymour Duncan Phat Cat p90
or my Gibson Dirty Fingers Humbucking pickup. Both have their advantages and
drawbacks. :?

Phat Cat-

Pros: Versatile able to achieve sparkly clean tones and aggressive razor-like tones.
Would probably sound better in combination with the neck pickup when in mid-position.

Cons: I would have to buy and change out tone pots to 250k to sound better but
might be benefit both pickups.
(Also would Seymour Duncan or Fender pots be better?). Sanding the pickguard
hole will be needed since it is more bar shaped than rounded at the corners.

Gibson Dirty Fingers-

Pros: Power,Power,Power very hot in overdrive. Very very warm clean tones.
Don't have to mess with the pots.

Cons: Almost no versatility, no crispy clean sounds. Will probably drown out the neck
pup completely when used together in the mid position. Also the legs on this
particular one are 1/4 inch longer which might pose a problem.

Additionaly the original pup in the guitar right now has one leg supported by two screws I don't know if that'll cause problems.

I know I could just try the Dirty Fingers first and then set it up for the p90 if I don't like it I just don't feel like doing that much work. I just want some different opinions on each choice. I only want to try these two I mentioned cause' I don't have the money to throw around for other pickup ideas. Would appreciate any responses!

So frankly and absolutely no sarcasm intended, the Duncan is tinny and anemic; the Gibson is a fizzy midrange puker. Neither have any inherent redeeming qualities to be considered better than what's in there now.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Well not neccessarily, I've tried both of them before and really like them thats why they haven't been sent off to ebay yet. I don't know if you're partial to the Atomic bucker but I can't say anything nice about it- but thats just my personal opinion. I don't see a future for it with my guitar, it has like no personality. (thats just me though)

Get an Invader. I never looked back. 22k is good. If it's too much, just dial back the volume for less intensity. It's better to have too much crunch, considering you can always shave a little off by messing with your knobs.
