Well, for the second year running I'll be playing in Memphis for the International Blues Challenge! And this year I'm going with my own band, Texas 99. We're not actually competing, but since everyone in the band is under 21 we get a spot opening for the finalists. I was shocked by how many people were there last year, and everyone had a great time! I also got to meet some cool people who have connections in the upper end of the music industry, several of which have been a great help to me. Hopefully this year goes just as well!

If you're in Memphis, we'll be on Beale Street playing this Friday around 4:00-5:00 pm. I won't know where until Thursday, so be sure and follow Texas 99's facebook page to find out as soon as I get the information. https://www.facebook.com/texasninetynine

On Thursday I get to do all my tourist-y things. That includes eating at Rendezvous and Gus' Fried Chicken, touring the factory of that other big guitar manufacturer that unfortunately does not make Strats and Teles, and picking up a Cigar Box guitar from the St. Blues workshop! :)

For Friday, our setlist is going to be:
-Midnight Crossing Blues (an original by me)
-Prodigal Son (The Rolling Stones, originally by Reverend Robert Wilkins from Memphis)
-Like a Buick 6 (Bob Dylan)
-Mary Had a Little Lamb (SRV)
-Memphis (another original by me)
-Crossroads (Cream)
-My Starter Won't Start (Lightnin' Hopkins)
-Going Down (Freddie King)
-Driving South/3rd Stone from the Sun medley (Hendrix)

Playing Live on Beale Street in MEMPHIS before you're even 21...??

Good On You Girl !!! :D

That's a significant Milestone on the stairway to Stardom !!

Houston seems to be to be a hotbed for female musical talent these days....

Just discovered fellow Houstonian Jazz Vocalist Kat Edmonson... amazing new talent ! She's toured with Willie Nelson and recorded with Lyle Lovette, just released her 2nd album. Do you know of her? Gonna see her live up here in Mpls. at the Dakota Jazz Club in March.

Hope someday I'll get the chance to brag about getting tix to see Rebecca Laird !! Keep this up and I know I will !

cheers!

Just remember to have some fun too...and a video of that set list sounds like a great idea! Always great to see you taking that next step! We can't wait to see this performance!

Well, I just got back from Memphis! It was great as always this year. Our set was a little different than what was listed above, but I'll have some videos ready a little later. We played at the Blues City Cafe, and managed to draw so many people that the place literally didn't have room for any more! I think we did well, and we've been starting to get gig offers from different people both in Texas and in other states! I also picked up my Cigar Box guitar from St. Blues, and we even used it for one of the songs we played. Here's a video of me and my drummer goofing off with it back at the hotel!

Well done. Loved the goofing. There's a great article on Debbie Davies in the current issue of Vintage Guitar. She's one of the women who comes to mind where you're concerned, but I see more of Tedeschi and Raitt in you. Let's hope their stardust falls on your shoulders. We'll be watching.
