I fell in love with the main solo from Steely Dan's Kid Charlemagne. Something about it is like magic to my ears. :P
I instantly became a Larry Carlton fan.

I had to try it so this is me having a go of it with a backing track from guitarbackingtrack.com.

A pretty righteous interpretation.

Rawk on!

Nice job! I love that tune...here's an excerpt of my version from a live gig - poor quality file and my voice was shot:

Thanks everyone for checking out the track!

Awesome job with the live version Mike! I would be totally freaked out if I had to play it live, and I would probably choke

Wow! That was very good. The skill level in here seems to be going over the top. If I had any guts i'd give it a go myself, but 'No Guts'. We wont even talk about skill level.

dude, you are good. great playing and huge tone. i'll bet you a beverage of your choice you would nail that live every time. in fact, i know it.
i really need to join the now and learn to post vids. i would instantly become a star here. to put it mildly i suck and my tone has been described as a chainsaw. i think my vids would result in others, on my level, starting to posting more vids. constructive feedback is a very helpful tool.
good f-ing job.

Serious thanks for the props jeebs but to be fair you did miss the many uncounted bad takes in front of this one.

I did actually chicken out on the chance to jam with someone recently cause I thought he might be a real musician. Luckily I'm happy jamming and recording in my loft. Join the club, start posting!! We should do a metal jam sometime, those are my long lost roots bro.

From this you will now be known as Kid Klowenst... Tastefully and well done sir. :D I suggest another great solo you might learn from the Steely Dan catalogue is "Reelin in the Years". It was originally performed in the studio by Elliot Randall. I am torn between those two but they are both in my top 10. Larry Carlton has always been one of my favorite guitarists...

PS good job Mike. I don't see or hear too many bands covering Steely Dan down here in my neck of the woods.

 That's awesome and thanks for the great compliment! I just went and re-listened to the solo from Reelin in the Years and yea it's killer. I think Steely Dan is growing on me in general, such a talented band.

Hey Klowenst, check out the solo for Peg, another of my favorites, and a fun one to learn:

The way I got into Steely Dan to begin with was when I was taking guitar lessons, every once in a while my instructor would ask me to go out and buy a specific recording. When I was probably about 13 or 14 years old, he told me to go out and pick up 'Can't Buy A Thrill' because it has a song called Reelin' in the Years which is the ULTIMATE guitar song.

From then on, I was hooked on Steely Dan and they're still my favorite band. The fact that they're such an odd pair is icing on the cake.
