reminds me of my first strat. i bought it used. it was sparkle like that but it faded from purple to pink.. one pickup with a chrome pickguard. it had three pickup holes but only one was in there. so i bought it because it was real cheap and refinished it to cadillac red... it was a great playing guitar hard tail with a schaller fine tuner and rosewood neck. ...

Nope, it was worth 500 cuz that's what you paid.
It doesn't matter what the price is.
Let's say you have a hunk o' junk.
You can ask a million bucks for it.
That don't mean the hunk o' junk is worth a million bucks.
Something is only worth what someone else will pay for it.

That's why some people can't sell stuff. They have a number in their mind what it's worth but they're out of touch with what people will pay. In reality it's only worth what people will pay.

That's also why I never trust appraisals. The 'expert' says it's worth X-amount but unless there's somebody standing there with that exact X-amount in his hot little hands ready to buy right there then it's nothing but speculation.

Sorry, don't mean to derail.

This is only part right. If you buy something at auction, the winning bid is not the value. The value would be the underbid if you had to sell it to the second highest bidder.

Appraisal Does Not say "what it's worth", It give a market value for a specified time.
One sale IS NOT A MARKET...

Such is the way of the used guitar market. The guitar buyer feels he got a good deal for offering lower than the sellers' asking price. In reality the deal is completely even if both parties agree upon any given price.

One sale IS NOT A MARKET...

Just because the appraisal doesn't use the word "worth" in the wording doesn't mean that's not the intent of the appraisal. The intent is to specify a value or worth at this point in time. In other words it's saying this is what a buyer would pay right now. In other words it's worth "X". The intent of an appraisal is exactly to describe the worth of something. There is no other reason for it. Calling it market value instead of worth doesn't change anything.

Also, if I have one guitar to buy or sell then one sale is the only market worth talking about.
