Well I know you're all envious (sp?) but Fed Ex says Thursday afternoon is when I'll see that 12 String Strat.

Wishing he had a countdown clock!

Whats the nut width on the fretboard? I like the idea but I don't know why they had to replace the headstock for that god awful symmetrical thingy. You can fit 6 tuning pegs around the underside of hte headstock ( I remember seeing a guide with a guy converting a squier to 12 string)

They have a different sound due to the double strings--this allows for different tonal qualities and effects. the sound is fuller, and while they're normally tuned like a guitar (with the strings doubled) in some ways they are their own breed and there are some differences in paying them--I like the fuller sound.

I have a couple of '96/'97 Squier Crafted In Japan Venus XIIs with the original factory Seymour Duncan 'split coil' pickups (like the original Fender XIIs from the '60's), the nut width is about 1 11/16". It's comfortable and easy to play, it sounds great (it has the best low E of any 12 string I've ever had, and I've had a few-I sold my Rick 360/12 after getting these, the Rick didn't sound nearly as good unless it had a compressor pedal, and even then the neck was too narrow), plus I can bend strings on it without it sounding awful! Years ago, Fender had a Strat XII with the old style (again, like the Fender XIIs from the 60's-and just like my Venus XII) bridge, but I didn't care much for the sound of Strat pickups with a 12-string. The new models have a different bridge (1/2 of the strings are through the body, 1/2 are 'top loaded'). I'd like to try one out.

P.S. The headstock on the Venus XII is EXACTLY the same as the John 5 'long headstock' (3x3 tuner arrangement) Tele (not the triple pickup model). No lie! The Strat XIIs seem to be a bit different as far as the headstock shape goes as compared to the Venus XII.
