Last week, I had to bring my Stratocaster into Charles Hoffman Handmade Guitars to have it evaluated for a warranty issue (a Fender Auth. Service Center w/ several Gold-Level Certified Technicians).

While there, I saw some amazingly beautiful solid body electrics made by Charlie Hoffman's son Gabriel (Gabe).

Charlie's been making wonderful handmade accoustics for 40 years for the likes of Leo Kottke, Tim Sparks, Dakota Dave Hull, Ann Reed, Jerry Rau, Charlie Maguire and more. His son Gabe has worked alongside for about 12 years.

The intriguing thing about these is that the neck is a true through neck running the length of the guitar and is not glued or bolted in place.

The semi-hollow body is my Fav.

cheers!

They look amazing. The only things that bother the hell out of me are the tuner configuration and the thin point on the headstock. I feel like I'd break it.

Very cool looking!
Reminds me a bit of the various Kritz Custom Guitars in Belgium:

This one is very cool with its very attractive hollow carved quilted maple top coupled to a pair of ferocious-sounding Seymour Duncan humbuckers! :P

With a 5-way switch and a 2-way mini-toggle you can dial between crispy clean single-coil and screaming fat humbucking tones while the Wilkinson bridge allows for silky tremolo work...

Not to be the fly in the ointment, but on a handmade guitar .....Why ....Why use the plastic HB mounting bezels  :?: .....
Why not go the final inch and route them in flush without the bezels...

To me that keeps these from joining the real high-end custom guitars club ...

I don't think you're a fly in the ointment at all. You have a valid point.

But I still think it's a beautiful, albeit not perfect Guitar !

cheers!

That is why I find it doubly egregious, as a woodworker and having a couple projects in the works I'm just puzzled as to why :?:
To me any piece of hardware that detracts from the beauty of Figured Maple, Flamed Maple or Tiger Maple or for that matter any figured wood is a cause for finding an alternative.

The grain on the figured maple guitars is just spectacular,Gabriel Hoffman certainly has a knack for picking woods with the most intriguing grains.

@ 53 Magnatone:that guitar is going to be a real GAS inducer when you get her all finished. The bookmatching job you did on her is sublime and will be no doubt outstanding when you get a few finish coats on it.I am pretty sure that you'll be getting requests to build some more once people see the finished product. You certainly have luthiery in your blood.
