Here is the reason, every decent bass player would understand:

Motorhead were the first band I saw live. Lemmy, Phil and Eddie lineup, Ace Up Your Sleeve Tour, October 1980.

It was like being in a war zone. I loved every minute of it. Just listen to the bass on this, utterly superb. Lemmy's not about technique or innovation or tone. Lemmy is the living epitome of all that is good in rock music.

So he's not decent because he doesn't pluck?

Works for Motorhead and Lemmy pretty well. For nearly 40 years now...

He does no doubt about that, playing bass like a rhythm guitar

Lemmy is bad@ss, and so was Joe Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult, another bass picker. His solo begins at about 3:08.

I think any decent bass player would look at that and say "That's as valid a technique as any other."

Most pro bass players I know love Lemmy.

I don't see your point here. Most people who listen to music don't have ANY primary instrument.

Lemmy is just....Lemmy. He does it his way and has played bass like that for decades. It works for Motorhead's style.

No offense taken! :)
Playing bass or not has nothing to do with being able to judge or accept somebody's style.

Motörhead is famous and it worked for their music.
What more can a musician ask for?

Just because somebody plays different from the millions of bassists which sound like clones from each other .... who cares?

I assume you're mainly a bass player, Sarigul?
Well, I heard a lot about Lemmy but I never heard about you!
(meant as a little provoking but friendly joke!)

The music world would be boring without "renegades" like Lemmy and other popular but not so traditional musicians.

Your view of Lemmy's Bass technique is like saying look at Jimi Hendrix he doesn't play guitar with cookie cutter technique. Lemmy may not be the best bass player in the world but his music is good and has worked for him for over 40 years.

So how many albums have you sold with your great bass technique?

Not to be insulting but we all have things we like and things we don't and that what makes music so great.

Dave.
