I have been admiring this new developement with some healthy lust, lol. For me this little addition is the frosty frosting

Hey SBLS,

I haven't played an Exclesior but I do own the Greta. It is a fun bedroom amp and they are both very retro looking which I like.....

I'm intrigued by the new Pawn Shop Bass VI. The originals are much too expensive and even the used reissues are still into four figures. Like all other Pawn Shop guitars, the Bass VI isn't true to the original, but I'm looking for the bass/baritone sound not a replica.

Great eye, sir. The Pawn Shop Exclesior™ Pro above is one of two items we are introducing at this show that's on my own potentially-must-have list ... I've been eyeing the various color combos but am leaning towards the blue one particularly since I already have a one-off Super-Sonic 22 in Surf Green.

Also ... check out this promo clip on the (original) Excelsior below if you haven't previously - it's pretty darned amusing. The "star" in this clip is local blues hound Chuck Hall who is a really, really funny guy even when he's not on camera:

I've observed elsewhere that if the tone is similar to the baritone voice in my VG Strat then investment is not worthwhile for me. It's also been suggested that a bass amp should be used with the Bass VI. Brad, having played bass in his band, might be one to bounce this suggestion off. So let's say, you and I drive down to Hallandale and shop a Bass VI and a VG Strat and compare them. [Maybe we can even drag Gary along. You remember him from lunch a year ago. He'll be down here into March.] Then we can report back to our mates here.

The Excelsior is a kick-ass harmonica amp. The Greta is actually a pretty good harmonica amp too.

I'd like to see Fender improve on Crate's Taxi and Limo...30w and50w battery powered guitar amps.

Just picked up an "original" Excelsior yesterday after selling some junk on Craigslist. Couldn't wait for the Pro to arrive in stock and I just don't know if the speaker difference would justify the extra Ben Franklin... maybe I will regret it when I hear the Pro but for now I am a satisfied Fender customer! It is a really nice sounding blues amp all "Pawn Shop" gimmicky marketing aside.

I have heard that the Excelsior and Excelsior Pro will only be produced through 2013 sales season, but I don't know why... IMO the Excelsior is a Epiphone Valve Jr and VOX AC4TV killer and is a great lower cost alternative to a Fender Blues Jr.

is there any real difference between the original EXCELSIOR and the new "pro" one?
