Can't say I've heard Webers. I'll be on the lookout for a new speaker soon. The stock Eminence that came with my Ampeg is awful. It's currently in my Roland JC.

So I figured I'll look for a speaker for my Heidkamp and move the V-30 in it to the JC.

So far the Jensen P12N is the front runner to pair up with the Jensen Blackbird. Makes a lot of sense to me. Shopping speakers can drive me in circles. But so far this one makes sense to me.

Congrats on your purchase. You seem pretty happy by it.

The Jensen you speak of is Weber's 12A150, of which they have 6 iterations of. Also, Weber makes a point of not comparing their speakers to modern Jensen label speakers made by Rocoton. Weber speakers are trying re-create classic Jensen's. The speaker I got would be a P10N type with a hemp cone. I know there was a C10N, not sure about a 'P'.

That's good to know, thanks for the information.

I wish there was somewhere to try out different speakers. It's a lot like pickups, you generally have to buy to try it.

I watched a speaker shoot out of Alnico 12" speakers. And the Jensen just came scorching out. It was pretty wild in the crunch tone. By itself, I think I liked the Celestion Gold. But my Heidkamp has a Blackbird in it, and it's thick on the Bass side. Freaking awesome speaker.

I'd love to hear an EVM12l as well. Problem is, that's an expensive experiment.

The Heidkamp is certainly the most impressive rock tone I've ever owned, and I want a great top end speaker to compliment the Blackbird to send it into something really out there. I think a P12N, or something similar can push it into a greater insanity.

True fact. Good news for me is anything will probably sound better than the stock speaker I got in my Bugera. Whether the one I replace it with is the best for what I'm looking for, I'll probably never know...

Weber definitely suffers from not having its speakers more easily heard. Their nuanced offerings make that somewhat daunting. This leads people to play it safe and go with the known. SOS sometimes. Being intrepid has paid off for me in a big way. I also am more of a guitar player than a lead player. I like the sounds of a clean guitar with some 'space' between sounds and Webers fill this space with sounds other speakers cannot articulate. That is the key word for me, articulation. In a world of saturated tone, overdrive as a primary tone and big fat sound, articulation can be undesirable. Minor finger fudges on the fretboard are more obvious and it makes one have to clean up a bit, if they are not already cleaned up. :D Webers have opened me up to a world of sound that could not be heard by me in other speakers. Custom hand made speakers are boutique items with well defined flavors. Factory made speakers are more generalized tonally, IMO. And in some cases, this is exactly what the guitar players wants.

Needless to say, it is great that there are so many speakers to choose from. Getting a good library of sound clips helps any speaker seller. Eminence has a good selection and the Jensen P12N had about 7 samples. Very good ones to judge the speaker by, I might add.

Part of our art is the tone we present and we have come to accept that speakers are part of the sonic structure. For me, Weber offers greater detail in the composition of this structure but, there is no right choice objectively. Pick your tone and give it to us. It's all good. One way or another.

Would you take the Blue Dog?

In a heartbeat. I am thinking about ordering a Blue Dog for my HRDlll......tomorrow. With a hemp cone. :D The BD will cost 208.00 plus shipping. I will get the 100 watt for the beast that is a HRD.

If the BD you speak of is broken in, all the better.

Nice, I don't think you'll be disappointed. As much as I like V30's, I think the Blue Dog is a better choice.

Personally, to my ears, Weber makes a finer speaker than Emi, Jensen or Celestion. Being hand-made seems to give them a quality that I cannot hear in other speakers. Also, my 50 watt C.Rex is little under-watted in a 40 watt amp IMO. And, it is ceramic. I like alnico as my main speaker. My C.Rex will be the extension cab for my SCX2 with its main speaker being a Weber 10A150H. I tried the pairing and it sounded full and punchy.

Had a little gig money in my pocket and talked to CJ at Weber about what speaker he thought would be best for my Bugera V5 and he recommended the Alnico Blue Pup 8. He said it has a nice detailed sound for cleans and a nice breakup for such a low-powered (5 watt) amp. So I went with that and placed the order. Will let y'all know how it sounds when it comes in.

The way I look at it, when a real person who is still alive is attached to a product, there seem to be more at stake. There is a Mr. Weber. I agree, they are seriously fine speakers. They never list any sensitivity specs, but the efficiency rating must be pretty high because they are not only some of the best sounding speakers I own, but they are seriously loud. People who have tried my 5e3 are amazed at how loud that amp is and how nice it sounds.
