I'm giving myself a bit of rest by doing a less strenuous activity; Refinishing my drums.

I really enjoy playing and all, but what I enjoy even more is taking apart the instrument and working on it.

I finished my bass drum today, and I'm going to do all 3 toms tomorrow. Luckily, the snare is steel.

I did well, especially for a C student in woodshop.

I took an eight year break once and it was not good for my playing at all.
2 days however should not be a problem.

I imagine 2 days might put a dent in my (lack of) abilities.

A short break won't degrade your level of playing either bit.Taking up drumming could really be beneficial to your timing and rhythm plus building up woodworking skills is of great advantage if you ever decide to take up guitar repair and refinishing.Good luck with refurbishing your drums, post pix when you get them finished.

I absolutely love drumming. I'm about 3 and a half months in now. Once I can record higher quality, I'm going to post backing tracks for people to play over. But that may be a long way away.

And I also LOVE fixing things. I've always been that way. To be honest, I consider the drums with the plain, black, vinyl to be broken. They look terrible with it.

And pics will come. I hope to have them done tomorrow evening. (if everything goes as planned)
