I just received a message from a Facebook friend that Guild has beefed up its guitar production and is reviving some of its most memorable and iconic instruments. The best news among all of that is that the Polara/S-100 line has been given a new life and is going into production again. The S-100 is an absolute SG/Les Paul slayer and can out-raunch both of them through a Marshall stack any day yet they are capable of producing the smoothest of jazz tones.Classic rock is also well suited to the S-100 as it can sustain almost infinitely for some great 60's style 10 minute lead breaks.

I have a '74 S-100-NB standard carved with an intricate oak leaf and acorn pattern carved into the mahogany body(it also has a mahogany neck). All that mahogany no doubt contributes to its incredible sustain. When affirmed Les Paul lover (he has owned at least 6)and Forum member Blinkers played my S-100 for the first time he was just plain flabbergasted as he had never played a guitar that was capable of so much crunch and raunch yet cleaned up crystal clear. If Guild has kept the recipe for the original humbuckers that were on the Polara/S-100 and several of its beautiful jazz boxes, I doubt that the factory will be able to keep up with the demand once the word gets out how superior they are to the most popular Gibson models.

It's good to hear Guild is resurging. I probably won't be in the market for one, but since I've owned my Starfire IV for about 46 years, I guess I have an affection for the brand. Good news.

Kim Thayill certainly knows a good guitar when he plays it,although I'm not heavy into Soundgarden there's no disputing the fact that he gets a monster tone from his S-100s, he apparently has quite a few of them.A few months ago one came up on ebay,it was in poor shape and didn't even have the original pickups(which were half the magic of these guitars)they still were asking $1,900 for it.

According to the Electric Guitar's Illustrated Encyclopedia Guild reissued the S-100 because Kim make the guitar popular.

Guitslinger, I remember them well. Incredible guitars. So much of the great stuff has disappeared. Glad it's coming back.
