I think they are made overseas...

They are made to Fender's spec's...

They are Squier's...

Someone else may jump in here that
is more knowledgable then me on them...

You might want to try one of the Mexican made strats too. Not too expensive, but maybe a touch better than the Squires.

Yep. Licensed by Fender, made in China, Indonesia & India. Made to Fenders specs, these instruments are a great value. They play well and stay in tune. Highly recommended as a first guitar. Heck, I play my Squier Tele as much as I do my real Fenders if that tells you anything!

I started playing the electric on a squier bullet, those are god value for the money. My bass is also a squier and it has been good.

Try the used stuff at a few stores. You may get a bunch more guitar than you expect. Best of fortune.

A used Squier Standard is going to be better than a new Squier Affinity series. I like strats but you might like Teles. If you get a used one from a local store they might throw in a setup which is worth it.

A used Yamaha Pacifica would be a great guitar too. My neighbours Peavey Raptor plays better than I thought it would. Check out the Xaviere guitars at guitarfetish.com (caveat, I have never tried one). Also, check out the user reviews at www.harmony-central.com.
