Yeah Man,
BYOC has a kit that combines a 5e3 and a 5F1 with a few interesting mods. Might be my next build.

The prospect of such an amp seems absolutely tantalizing!

The new Ibanez amps such as the TSA-15,and TSA-30 combo amps are getting rave reviews. They are competively priced and have Celestion speakers plus they have the famous Tube Screamer circuitry built into their workings. They also come in head form so you can supply your own cabinet. The Blues Jr. is a very versatile amp, especially the one with the Celestion V-30 option.Vox also makes incredible tube amps such as the AC-15-C1 that can play either squeaky clean or down and dirty.

Even though they aren't strictly tube amps, the Vox VT series of hybrid amps has a tube in the power amp that gives a very realistic tube sound and performance to their spot on amp models plus they have an incredible effects bank with at least 16 true-to-life effects such as rotary/Leslie,Univibe,flanger,phaser and added to those:4 types of echo plus 4 types of reverb. The loud VT-20 retails for less than $200 and sounds much better than just about everything in its price range and many that cost much more.Happy hunting.

I tried a PRS SE20 112 combo for just a couple of minutes back before Christmas. I didn't spend a whole lot of time with it but it seemed to me to be something like a channel switching DR on steroids, without the vibrato circuit of course. Definitely more gain available than a typical Fender amp. Possibly in the same territory as an early Boogie but smaller. It was priced about a hundred fifty more than a DRRI.

Just a thought.

Here is my TSA5 little demo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqr5AWJ5o80
(it came with a Squier Affinity Tele, so I took it)

on clean sounds very much like Champ 600, but I still prefer my SCX2 head. More possibilities and great sounds!

Once bitten twitch shy for me anyway. After my Hrdlx experience and problems on the showroom floor with other Fender amps, I'm done with their new production amps.

Just gonna build my own from now on and keep my Rebel 20.

Medium wattage amps are a waste of money. What's the point of not being loud enough for a band...but too loud for practicing alone?

I'd get a tweed combo amp with at least 30 watts. Don't burn your hand on the back of it.

The 5W Ibanez is just for home-study, or recording.
For gigging I use a SCX2 with Ragin Cajun. If need more power, can LineOut it to a FM65R (I also own) through Loop In. Sounds very good, and have enough power. Me = happy...

The other night I was playing with my drummer and although there was plenty of room for me to turn up the SCX2, I ran the line out to my Bugera V5 with a touch of reverb. My Bug uses the stock speaker but I run a parralel connection of the speaker to a Weber signature 8" alnico in a little cab I built for it. I already had the vibratone/leslie effect happening with the X2 so the bug let me add some reverb to that sound. I loved it. Drummer too. Lots of presence instead of just power. I have recorded with the line out of the X2 twice and the sound was great. The Cajun is a great speaker for the X2.

After your experience, and others, I'm done with them too. My Musty and SCX2 are considered fake amps by the purists so they don't count. I just enjoy their sound and dependability real quiet like. 8)

Might be interesting to bounce this off the Amp Forum and see what the feedback is. Might get the suits at FMIC to start rethinking their product line.

I've been GASsing for a mid-range tube amp (around 20 watts) for a while now. I have a 4 watt Vox, a 50 watt Peavey Classic head, and a 120 watt 5150 head. I've been a fan of Avatar speaker cabs, and I saw that they recently started offering amps. This 18 watt head is a really awesome sounding amp. It's made in the USA, you can choose between EL84 or 6V6 power tubes (the vid is with EL34's), and it costs less than $1000. I really want one of these. It would probably be great for recording.

Another amplifier that I think is really awesome, and a great value is the Carvin VT16. I played through the 1X12 combo version a few weeks ago, and I really thought it sounded great.

I dunno. They're selling a ton of that stuff we call crap. Even folks here on the forum are gobbling some of it up in bucketfuls.

What I'd really like to see is if they took their existing re-issue line up and made real re-issues. I'd pay more for a real Fender (read non-PCB) DR or VR that was true to the old BF circuits like the clones are. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe they could sell both PCB and non-PCB versions. Keep selling the PCB versions to the customers they already have and also take a bite out of the clone biz and get some of that old school customer base back. They tried it with the smaller tweeds but they didn't try hard enough before bastardizing them with mods. I think the only issue holding them back was the clones were 18% - 20% cheaper. Where I live the '57 Deluxe retailed for about $2,050 - $2,100 but a Victoria 20112 (which some people have argued is a better amp than the Fender in terms of build quality) is typically priced around $1,700 - $1,750.
