I disagree.

Wish they would ban her from doing the halftime superbowl show!

There's a good side to this, though.

Most of us older Forum users well remember the days when nearly all music on TV was mimed to. What dreary fakery it all was.

Sometime around the '80s I guess there started to be a backlash against it to the point nowadays it's hard to get away with and most performers wouldn't try, especially as far as lead vocals are concerned. (I do know there are exceptions, but... )

So it's good that we live at a time when a singer syncing their lines is treated with ridicule, rather than just accepted as the norm.

Cheers - C

I for one would like to know the reason for the last minute decision.
There's no denying the girl can sing, she is from a musical heritage so faking it isn't something she does normally.

Did Beyonce have a performance that night :?: If so that would explain the Lip-Sinc, since it was quite cold and the SSB is not a Lullaby but a full power hymn which demands the singer to go all out vocally. Not good for your vocal chords in freezing temperatures.

As far as all the Lip sinced or canned soundtracks from the past on TV shows, well some of us old enough should also remember that the live sound reproduction was absolutely horrendous in the 60's and 70's and made even worse when the sound engineer (sic ) was someone from a Union who absolutely had nothing to do with the band, thus couldn't be familiar with their sound requirements..

Just voicing to keep it in perspective .... It's not all Lies and Mirrors ...

Because they were in Washington and it was very cold.

The same thing happened four years ago--Yo Yo Ma (don't accidentally call him Yo Mama, he gets upset) mimed playing the cello for his part in the inaugural performance, because the instrument would not stay tuned in the cold wind and weather.

...and as far as backlash, Britney Spears has done it her entire career, several of the boy bands have been exposed for doing this...it's rampant in pop music, and unlikely to change, because it's all image and fluff for those types of performers.

It goes back to the expectation of the audience. One Direction's fan base would easily accept it, whereas Jack White's audience would eviscerate him...I can't imagine Nora Jones lip syncing, but Miley Cyrus or Demi Lovato or Justin Bieber? No surprise at all.
Is audience there for the talent or for the "show"?

The weird thing is, I think Beyonce can actually sing...it has to be the "cold weather/bad for your voice" issue.

I think if your having to pay to see someone perform / concert,
then they should be singing live, if it's free and something like this, i see no harm.

I'm surprised anyone was surprised. I'm not bothered to be honest, it's not like she mimed over someone else's voice, it was her singing the recording and given the size of the occasion I wouldn't blame anyone for miming!

@ Miami Mike

I respect your opinion and right to disagree.

But given BARRY SOETORO'S dependence on the teleprompter these past 4 years (the only times he was without one, he looked like a Deer in the headlights), the lipsync seemed in sync!

For a guy who barely got more than half the vote, the whole thing seemed more akin to a Coronation than an Inauguration. Major waste of both Taxpayer and others' money IMHO.

Well... at least we've seen the last of it.

cheers!

Yeah. Until Hillary in '16. :P

I was thinking today about all the lip syncing in the old days. One exception was the Ed Sullivan Show. Paul's mike went out and John kept on singing the harmony part. Sounded good.

A singer who dances, such as Britney Spears, can't be expected to do it without help. Nobody is fit enough. Except maybe yours truly. 8)

I just can't believe someone was paid to report this. The real story is that people would find this interesting enough to even give it a thought. Present company excluded of course. :) I'll bet more people know about Michelle's new hair style (bangs) than any of the president's polices and Congressional history. Again, present company excluded. There is just so much news that I can't find it within myself to care about. Even the important stuff I can't seem to handle. I think I got news overload/burnout over the last year. Does it seem like the same stuff different day to all of you as well? Not trying to be a bummer here, but I have a hard time watching, reading, or listening to any kind of news anymore. I feel like I'm only getting part of the story for the purposes of ratings or agenda. Well, kudos to those who can stay sane living in the thick of it.

Edit: I can see the merit of discussing such things here as it's music performance related. I was referring to it being a story in major media outlets.

Ha! That put a grin on my face! :D

Hey, GTG, these days you can post a video of your singing and dancing right here on the Forum! I'm expecting sort of a cross between Britney and Fred Astaire... 8)

Cheers - C

So Beyonce lip syncs at the inauguration, and folks are up in arms, but we don't mind when she and others lip sync in paid concerts?

I hate to deflate anyone's balloon, but almost all the SuperBowl halftime artists are lip syncing. Yes, even the Who did, and this year's acts will as well. Too much riding on a RF dropout or problem with an amp, although I think it would make it more exciting.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
