Hey All,

I may have the chance to make a trade for a fender hot rod deluxe laquered tweed amp limited edition for my Epiphone 335 dot. Is this a good deal? I think it is given the prices ive seen on used HRD amp. Any advice on this would be great.

Also what is the tone like on this amp or anything else I need to know about it.

Thanks,

Dave

I would suggest giving the amp an extensive test drive before making any decisions. I don't know if this applies to the Hot Rod Deluxe III series, but I know for a fact the II series was notoriously unreliable (This coming from both personal experience, and reading threads). See some old Modern Amp section threads for more of what I'm talking about.

Basically, keep your guard high is all that I'm saying. The Dot is one nice playing guitar and the value is hard to beat.

I don't think it's a good deal at all.
The Epi Dot is a pretty good guitar and the HRDlx is an iffy amp at best.
Dollar wise it's prolly OK but I can think of better ways to use the dollars.

That's my 2 cents. YMMV.

My question would be what Amp are you using right now..??

Unless it's a SERIOUS improvement to what you now have, I'd say forget it !

We all get GAS and it's Amp equivalent, but sometimes you just gotta say NO !

cheers!

If it were me, I'd keep the Dot and get a DRRI or find a nice SF to plug it into. I'm still using my Egnater Rebel 20 and I just built a Tweed Deluxe 5e3. As for Egnater, the only amp I recommend now is the Rebel 20. Looks like they have some issues going on right now, and the Rebel 20 seems to be the most reliable amp in the Egnater line right now. Anyway the 5e3 would be a cool amp for that Dot.

As anyone can tell you, I have no love for the Hrd series.

Thanks guys,

I decided to not make the trade and keep my dot, even though I dont play it much. Thinking I may Mod it with some better PU and new pots.

I would say leave it alone and if you don't play it then trade it for a guitar that at the moment may be more suited to your musical directions, however a 335 makes for an excellent rhythm and / or jazz alternate guitar. I have always kept guitars for a while in the event that I may use them in a completely different direction.

+1
If you don't play it, why spend money on it?
