I have a new Closet Classic PJ Bass and I am looking for tone pot, and pickup advice. It is my first PJ and I'm learning as I go. I don't like the tone pot as it effects the volume too much.
Any tone pot recommendations?

Also, any advice on a nice set of balanced PJ pups? The jazz pup I currently have is just a little thin on the bottom end for me. I am looking for nice balance, and growl with nice mid range presence and and a top end that is not too clicky and clanky. I play funk, soul, jazz and blues for a living so looking for the right sound for those genres.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!!

Stick some SD Quarterpounders into your baby!

The Seymour Duncan SPJB-3 Quarter Pound PJ Bass pickup set includes the SJB-3b J-Bass bridge pickup and the SPB-3 P-Bass neck pickups.

The Seymour Duncan SH-SJB-3b Quarter Pound is a high output true single-coil pickup for J-Bass. Recommended for blues, classic rock, garage, heavy rock, classic metal and nu-metal*. Developed for the bassist who needs the slammin' output of the Hot but with even stronger attack. The quarter-inch pole pieces and intense windings deliver a full response with great sustain. Includes logo cover.

The SPB-3 is Seymour Duncan's most popular Basslines pickup. This is a high output, versatile pickup, recommended for blues, classic rock, punk, heavy rock, classic metal and nu-metal*.

The quarter-inch diameter pole pieces expand the magnetic field and extend the frequency ranges for fat, full, punchy sound with tremendous mid-range presence and maximum output. Though often used for heavy rock tones, this pickup gives amazing tonal versatility to a single pickup instrument making this the most popular Basslines pickup. Includes logo covers. Often used together with STC-2 or STC-3 Tone Circuits for optimal tonal control.

*this is SD's recommendation, these pickups may be also suitable for use with other music styles.

Seymour Duncans are always good all-rounder pickups and it's a "name" manufacturer so they keep some resale value. Also worth looking at Bare Knuckles:

Bare Knuckle P Bass Series - '58 Split Coil P

Bare Knuckle J Bass Series - '60 PE J Bass
