The ironic thing is that if Leo Fender could have made pickups and amplifiers with a perfectly linear response up to 20 kHz then that's probably exactly what he would have done. He was an electrical engineer working from the Radio Designer's Handbook and every page of that deals with eliminating all possible distortion from amplifier design.

It's only the restrictions of 1950s technology in the form of non-linear pickups, paper speaker cones, vacuum tubes, big output transformers and sometimes very variable quality control that gave us the modern guitar sound, if electric guitars were invented in the 21st century then we'd have a very different beast.

... sorry, what was this thread about again? Ah yes, DC resistance. Yeah, that's useless.
