I went into the city today to swap out my company truck for a different one and while I was there I decided to check L&M and see if my Runaway pedal arrived yet. Sure enough, after months of waiting it had just come in the day before and I was on their call list for notification this afternoon. While I was there I thought I'd take a look at some practice bass amps because my SWR rig is over at a buddy's house in our rehearsal space and I've been thinking I should get a cheap amp to practice with. I found a cute little Ampeg practice amp that sounds pretty good and was reasonably inexpensive at $300.

Then when I got home the Purolator man had been here and the Marshall Fridge I'd ordered way back last July or August finally arrived and was sitting there on my porch.

I intended to pick up one thing and ended up with three!! It never rains but it pours.

The Marshall half stack refrigerator is Stacked, no pun intended.
At first glance, I thought oh, looks like the new dsl 15 head and 1x12 cab.
Then the open door picture. That is sick.

OK

Well I did try the little Ampeg in the store for a few minutes, long enough to know I liked its tone but I put it through the paces here at home just now. Considering it's a low powered amp it's got a pretty deep low end thump, some nice tight midrange spank and the highs are surprisingly smooth. Volume-wise it starts to break up around noon on the volume dial, sooner if I don't use the 15dB pad but my bass is active so ....

I'd say it's almost gig-worthy if you were playing a small room and the genre wasn't too aggressive ... like maybe Jazz or Blues and the guitar player was using a DR or BJ (clean-ish) and the drummer had a lighter touch. Almost gig-worthy but not quite. When I set the volume just below break up and I use an agressive attack like popping and slapping it almost has enough to get the windows thinking about rattling but not quite. My SWR rig shakes my whole house and has the windows rattling on houses 3 or 4 doors away. It's a great tool for dusting the house. In my opinion if this little amp had about 30% more power it would be a very popular and fast selling item cuz guys could actually play small gigs with it. As it is I don't think it's quite there but it sure sounds nice for practicing which is exactly what I bought it for. And the price is right. This one's a no brainer for the non-gigging enthusiast.

BMW-KTM...WTF? You give us a great run down on the bass amp, but leave us hanging on the Fender Pedal...not to mention the Marshall Fridge :?: :?: :?: For shame :!:
