2013 New Orleans JazzFest lineup released today... HUGE !!

To Fans, it's like waiting for the Academy Awards announcements... People in NOLA actually have all-night parties waiting for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's 8am announcement of the annual lineup for JazzFest.

This year's lineup is spectacular and truly something for everyone:

Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, The Black Keys, John Mayer, Widespread Panic, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Phoenix, B.B. King, Frank Ocean, Earth, Wind & Fire, Willie Nelson, Little Big Town, George Benson, Jill Scott, Jimmy Cliff, Gipsy Kings, Jeffrey Osborne, Patti Smith, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Band of Horses, Gary Clark Jr., Andrew Bird, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Juan Luis Guerra y 440, Los Lobos, The Little Willies, Kem, Roy Ayers, Laura Bell Bundy, Dianne Reeves, Stanley Clarke/George Duke Project, Charles Bradley, Wayne Shorter Quartet, Taj Mahal & The Real Thing Tuba Band, Calexico, Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra, VaShawn Mitchell, Joshua Redman Quartet, Mutemath, Ana Popovic, The Mavericks, Little Joe y La Familia, Campbell Brothers, Brushy One String of Jamaica, Jerry Douglas, Daryl Coley, Magary Lord and Malê Debalê of Bahia-Brazil, The Del McCoury Band, Doc McKenzie & the Hi-Lites, Pokey LaFarge, Salio of Republic of Georgia, and A Tribute to Native America with special guests Robert Mirabal, Martha Redbone, Bill Miller, Pura Fé, A Tribe Called Red, Stoney Creek, Yellow Bird Indian Dancers,
Oneida Longhouse Singers and Dancers,
Plus dozens of local and smaller acts.

Held over 2 consecutive weekends (last weekend in April/1st weekend in May), on a dozen stages, at the State Fairgrounds. The Fest runs 11am-7pm daily, then it's rush to get home, change and head down to Frenchmen Street or St. Claude Ave. to experience many of the players in New Orleans famed music clubs !

JazzFest is the 2nd largest festival in New Orleans aside from Carnival (Mardi Gras). You buy a daily or Pkg. Pass and the acts are Free (last year $65/day)

This is an annual trek for Mrs. Lightnin MN and I. We go for 12 days and rent a charming, small 200 year-old Creole cottage from a French author we know who spends 6 mos. of the year in Paris. We're 1 block from the French Quarter and 2 blocks from Frenchmen Street !

cheers!

What an incredible line up. I guess Jazz Fest is now just an official title and not a descriptor. Works for me.

In New Orleans, everything is labled 'Jazz', just like their former NBA team, now the Utah Jazz.

Actually, there are 12 stages... a Blues stage, Jazz Stage, Gospel stage etc. in addition to the main stages. It's really all-encompassing.

cheers!
