I've made no secret about my GAS/Gear Lust/Desire to have a Fender Bass VI...

and now, they've made a Pawn Shop Bass version of the fabled lower-toned monster!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

http://fender.com/series/pawn-shop/pawn-shop-bass-vi/

This thing has been on my "Short List" for several years now, but I've never been able to afford one...hopefully it will play like the "real deal..."

I'm seeing $799 street price online.

I love the Pawn Shop guitars, it's like the Fender design team got really drunk and started throwing leftover bits together then sobered up and noticed that some of them looked pretty good. The Bass VI is a classic Fender design and the new version looks even better with the lever switch in place of the original slide switches. Not sure why so many Pawn Shop instruments have the output jack on the pickguard though, I'd love to see more use of the Electrosocket style side jack for this kind of guitar. And if they made it in Burgundy Mist then I'd be beating a path to the music store right now.

This may have simplified the routing for the control cavity and pickups...time is money.

My first thoughts about this were similiar. 50 years ago, when I could have used one, I couldn't afford it. Now, when I certainly can, I really have no need for it other than as a 'toy', so to speak. I am looking forward to first sonic impressions, in that my VG Strat has a baritone voicing and I wonder would I get more out of the Bass VI. :?:

Two overwound Jaguar single coils coupled to a super hot humbucking Jazzmaster bridge pickup are the icing to the cake.

Wow....could'a done some really awesome $@!& with this mother back in the day. Might just buy one for fun. Been looking for something very different and this might be it. Wonder if a bass amp is a must for this or maybe just a Bassman, which would take care of a passle of whole other sounds. 8)

The Bass VI looks like a rediculous amount of fun! Are these safe to run with regular guitar amps?? I agree the Bassman is naturally the safe bet, but it would be impractical to have to purchase a whole new amp just to fit this one axe.

I enjoy the thought of how gnarly a VI might sound with a tonebender-type fuzz.

Might be worth having a look at the Other Bass Forum. There are three threads worth reading. There's an overall lack of enthusiam for this version. Apparently the original design had more chops. :? Makes me thing that what they've done is wrapped a baritone guitar in a different package.
