Sorry people... I know this subject has been beat to a slow death, but, I just want to make sure... and yes, I've researched the similar threads.
I've seen the philosophy here and there that the wah pedal should come before the compressor, but, for the life of me, I can't understand why compression shouldn't come first... Please enlighten me. I'm building a new pedal board and I want to make sure everything's in the right order.

FYI, the pedals I have are (and this is the current plan for the order using the afore-mentioned philosophy... and also the order that sounds best to me with the exception of the compressor which has never been introduced into my chain until now):

Boss Noise Gate
Cry Baby
MXR Dyna Comp
DOD Flashback Fuzz
Digitech Screamin' Blues OD/Distortion
MXR 10 Band EQ
Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo
Boss TU 2 Tuner

I've tried the tuner in different locations, but found it interferes if placed elsewhere in the chain. Can't figure out why, seeing it's just a passive unit, but it does. Maybe it's just my particular gang and how they get along. I just make sure everything else is off while I use it.

Thank you for your patience :?

Personally I'd be more inclined to put the compressor before the wah-if I used one-try it out both ways and stick to the setup that suits you best, after all you're the one who's going to be listening to it most. There are aren't many rules chiselled in stone about what order to put pedals in except for delay devices always go last in the chain, but all others can go where it best suits the player.Cheers.

Well, I messed around with the arrangement... and I think I've figured out why it's suggested to put the wah first... it saves space.

If I put the comp before the wah, I'd have to extend the board another 5 or 6".
Had to change the compressor to an old DOD I've had for about 23 years, but never used. Never knew they could be so much fun!... distortion, sustain, then the feedback... I'm havin' a blast!
Now that I've got everything in order I gotta hit the garage and get to work... see you in a few hours.

Thanks!

If I was building a peadal board for blues I very likely wouldn't use any compression at all and if I did I'd likely put it after the wah.

However, for any genre of Rock I can think of I'd want my compression in front of the wah. In fact I might even put a light chorus in front as well. In a perfect world I'd have a loop switch to switch a sub-loop for wah in and out of the signal chain in which there'd be fairly tight compression first, then light chorus and then wah and possibly even a boost in front of all of it and switch the whole loop in and out as a unit. Then I'd use that as my lead bank. The gain and compression and chorus and wah would all combine to get some nice squeals and harmonics that could easily swell and blossom for lead work.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

You may not even hear a difference unless you use a lot of compression. In case you put the Wah first, then the compressor would keep all the sweeping at a constant (somewhat) level volume.

All done!
Thanks again for all the input... I play mostly rhythm, but i do have a habit of experimenting with some strange exotic noises... as the late, great Captain Beefheart would refer to it - "music from the other side of the fence" and "opaque melodies that would bug most people".
On the comp, I have output and compression about 12:00... I'm not very fond of so much compression the strings sound like they're popping when you hit them, and I don't like losing the natural "Fender feel" of a Strat or Tele.
The pedals are attached using 3M Dual-Lock so if I find I have to move something to a different location it's not very difficult.

Even managed to squeeze in the footswitch for the Hot Rod!

Great looking pedal board!

I've been kind of getting away from using pedals
and just use my Korg Pandora (PX5D) which gives
me all I need.

Nice job, Frankie! That's one of the neatest pedal boards I've seen.

It's a little hard to see the signal chain from the picture but it looks like the tuner is on one end and the Wah on the other. Or maybe not?

Cheers!

Chain goes:
Wah>Noise Gate>Compressor>EQ>Fuzz>OD>Delay/Echo>Tuner.
In my younger days, I had the gate at the end of the chain... cheap, noisy guitar; cheap, noisy pedals and I was trying to cut down on the noise going to my cheap, noisy amp. In my later and wiser years, I came to realize that no matter how noisy the boxes are when there's a signal going thru them, they remain quiet if the input signal shuts down. So now I have a couple of nice guitars and it doesn't take much to "open the gate".

I made the board out of 3/4" thick black PVC. I put the back row up on another layer, so those pedals are 3/4" higher than the front row.
Also have an 8 plug daisy chain One Spot that powers the whole thing.

It's "neat" because of my "Type-A" personality.
