edelstone, thanks for posting. The drummer, guitar player, singer sound good. Cool song choices. You look like a pro with a great bass guitar. When I read this part of your post "I am somewhat new to this game, so I have my ups and downs". I thought, ups and downs are part of everything, so, normal. Looking forward to more vids. :D 8)

This is from a recent show. It's a cover of Journey's "Separate Ways". I'm playing the red Strat, which has the Fishman Fluence pickups in it.

Thank you, Rollie. I pretty much play what I'm told. I find it's a good mind set to consider yourself a mechanic, just doing a job. I actually play quite a few songs that I don't like at all. I could post video of a Belinda Carlyle song to prove my point, but I'll spare you the agony.
Separate Ways is a cool song for a band because of the dynamics. I really enjoyed that one.

My next door neighbors weren't home and my wife went to the store. I had the house to myself, so I cranked up my Strat and plugged the MP3 player into the other amp and cranked that too.

This is me rocking out to Heart's 1977 hit, "Barracuda".

Amazing that I didn't knock the Strat hopelessly out of tune, since I don't have a Floyd Rose whammy bar. But I took a few liberties with the tremolo arm harmonics and dive bombs.

Thanks... I used the whammy bar squeal (harmonic 4th & 5th frets) a little too much, but I just winged it and rocked along to the tune.

Anyway, one thing I discovered about not knocking my Strat out of tune with all the whammy action, was I borrowed my daughter's french horn oil/grease that she uses for her rotors and triggers and stuff on her fancy double french horn that she plays. I detuned each string, moved each one off its nut slot, and applied a tiny touch of that synthetic based french horn oil to each slot. Cleaned the whole nut with a paper towel, retuned, and that was it. What the heck, you know? It worked...

Nice job Butch!

"China Markers" work great for lubing the nut as well. I picked up the tip from a local repair guy (Skip Goez) here in St. Louis. Works like a charm and you can get them in black or white to match the color of your nut.

This was a fun song to do. Here's our interpretation of When The Levee Breaks:

Andy. I liked your version, paying tribute to the Zep. 8)

This is Still Got The Blues. I was stoked to be able to do this song with the band, and wanted to post it. It's not my best lead work, but not too bad.
