I'm on the fence. I decided to chuck the idea of the line6 .
Both are the same price, both have neat features.
Looking for an amp with great distortion for rock tones.
I believe both have EL34's.
I've got a DRRI and a blues jr, and have nice fender tones.

my vote goes to the blackstar. lovely amps. im a marshall man, but some of these new blackstars sound great and their sound shaping knob thingy can make them hugely versatile, as does the switchable wattage settings. though im unsure if the model you mention had both those features. cheers

I have the Blackstar HT Club 40, and it's great! I love the tones that you can get out of it, and it's very diverse. I can go from a nice clean sound, to crunching overdrive. It also takes pedals very well, and I really like the built in reverb. All in all, great amp.
The only thing I'm not big on is the weight of it, but that's just because I wasn't expecting it. It's close to 50 pounds I believe.

One has an MDF cabinet and is made in Vietnam. (these things I know)
The other has a ply cabinet and is made in Korea (only the internets word for those)

Though it pains me to say it, I think I'd have the Blackstar...

I wrote a review at the Marshall forum.

http://www.marshallforum.com/marshall-amps/54049-marshall-dsl-40c-vs-blackstar-ht-40-my-perspective.html

If you cannot be bothered to check it out. I'll let you know I went with the Marshall. It was more me. :D

From what I could tell both looked like really solid and very capable amps. The Marshall of course had the real authentic tones that I just love. The Blackstar has its own sound that is a bit of everything. I would call it quite neutral. One can then dial in a bit of a Marshall or a bit of a Peavey 6505 flavour but I felt that it did not nail them completely. I am not saying that is a bad thing just that if you want a Marshall sound you'd probably be happier with the DSL 40c. YMMV :)

Hey man, read your Marshall forum review.
Made a lot of sense. saving up some cash right now, Marshall is the way
to go, considering I have a DRRI for clean. And it does dirty very well with
pedals.
