Way to go Gibson !

It would be satisfying to think that Fender would respond in a similar way.

cheers!

Exactly. Another thing Fender does is continue selling defective Pawn Shop Mustangs, then force you to go to a stupid kid "tech" (yea right) who is their authorized tech at a mega-store, who proceeds to lie that he even opened the guts, not do a thing, proclaim nothing wrong, and put multiple dings on your previously mint (except for the factory defects--static) guitar. Then give runaround in emails. Total BS.

by the way, I was able to install copper shielding myself, which stopped the static problem for the most part, but Fender's authorized tech who dinged my guitar wouldn't do it. he claimed he could not recreate the problem. he never even looked at the inside of the guitar, and I know this because the strings were not even changed.

that the Pawn Shop Mustangs, now made in Mexico, are sold for $799 real street price (before the standard 15% discount that anyone will give you if you simply ask), is a total joke. It's a $299 type guitar. At least I got the original 2011, made in Japan...but still the static problem in the absence of copper shielding tape.

Gibson stepped to the plate on this one because it became a viral news story and they saw an opportunity for good PR and free advertising.

If this was your guitar and it didn't make the news, I seriously doubt they would have done anything about it. Trust me folks, the grass is always greener.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Gibson, and I'm still Mr. Nobody!

When I bought a Steinberger Spirit that had issues, a cheap import, they made arrangements with one of their best repair stations to get it fixed, quickly...it was the only guitar I had at the time, the shops wanted me to wait weeks for the repair. When I purchased a couple of SG's that had issues, they got it squared away, quickly. Whenever I contact Gibson via telephone, they are always there and ready to assist!

And they are working like the dickens to keep jobs in America instead of off-shoring guitar manufacturing.

I like Gibson!

Can't blame them for getting a little good press too!

Have you called them and asked them if this is a publicity stunt?

No doubt, but aren't you really just stating the obvious here..??

Corporations... or People for that matter act in their own self-interest 99.99999% of the time, that's a given.

After wandering this Blue Rock for more than 5 decades, call me cynical if you will, but I've discovered that there is VERY LITTLE true Altruism in the World.

Aside from Mahatma Ghandi, Mother Theresa, and only a few others, most people act out of pure self-interest. Many so-called Do-Gooders act to be seen and praised by others, or for their own self-gratification... to feel good about themselves.

You will never hear about the true Do-Gooders on this Earth because they are too busy doing good to waste time seeking affirmation and aggrandizement from others. They shun Publicity and Awards.

Kudos to Dave Schneider for being astute enough to use Social Media to plead his case to a successful conclusion... this alone should be a lesson to all of us ! He knew exactly what he was doing and did it well.

As for Gibson, it worked. I am much more favorably predisposed to buying their products than I was before this story, even though I fully understand their motivation in responding the way they did.

If Gibson wants to lay a $5k Hollow-Body Reissue on me, I'd be more than happy to respond with $10k of praise and gratitude by making it as Public as I could !

It's just nice to see the Little Guy get one in the Win Column once in a while.

cheers!

To me, it's obvious. To some of the people at the top of the thread .....? not too sure

Right, and I wouldn't expect any less from Fender.

I don't think this is a publicity stunt, just a good move on their part to try to repair the reputation they've destroyed so much over the years.

I'll admit that I've had only minor setup issues with my Fender guitars (nothing requiring an actual repair) and the few repairs weren't warranty issues. I haven't had bad dealings with a certified Fender tech (of the three I've given business to) either.

I have reached out to various Fender corporation folks at different times, and they've always been quick, couteous and informative (finding the age of/born date of my Strat, Tele, two Fender acoustics and my '63 Vibroverb reissue amp)...some of this data I kinda half-knew because I bought them new (Strat and Vibroverb), but the rest were used purchases with conflicting data told to me by the seller.

Either way, I feel for the guys who've had bad experiences, but I think they're the exception rather than the rule...

After reading quite a few stories on their forum about Henry J. and company not always stepping quickly up to the plate to effect warranty repairs to some people`s guitars,it kind of makes one wonder if their generousity didn`t have ulterior motives. This helped their P.R. more than $10,000 worth of ad campaigns ever would, and I`m sure that with all the media coverage this incident received, they saw this as a Godsend.

Sorry to sound cynical but judging by some of the posts that I`ve seen on their site,it does give one pause for thought.I heartily agree with the previous posters who stated similar beliefs.A buddy of mine paid over $3,000 for his first Les Paul in 2009 and hasn`t had any of the numerous problems that he has had with it since day one resolved yet.

Edit: Back in 1979 I bought a 1978 Strat that was the personal guitar of one of my best buddies who was also a Fender dealer/authorized repair facility. After I had the guitar for about 6 months the neck developed the strangest kind of warp that I'd ever seen. The warp was a longitutinal twist that started at around the 4th fret and progressed right uo to the neck heel. My buddy phoned Fender and told them about the warp and they told hm to send it to them.At the time they had no left hand maple necks in stock and to hasten the process had bought one back that they had sold to the Left Hand Guitar Guild and send it to me so that with 10 days I had the new neck on my guitar.I wouls imagine that Fender still possesses the same high value on customer satisfaction.

You don't have to imagine, you can read this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=57294

It will tell you all a sane person needs to know about the value Fender places
on customer satisfaction.

Awesome for that guy. What appeared to be a tragedy turned out good for him. He hopefully learned his lesson, his guitar will probably be better than new when Gibson gets done with it, and he gets a new one in the meantime. :D

It wasn't my intention to make this a Fender vs. Gibson thread, just a follow-up on the thread I posted when the incident was first reported last week.

It's just a guitar-related Human Interest story, nothing more.

It could well have been about a Fender, PRS, Ibanez, Heritage, etc. guitar, it just so happened to be a Gibson.

cheers!
