Hey All,

Kinda new to the group, and this is my first post. I hope that this topic has not already been done. I constantly get into arguments with people about who the best Rolling Stones lead guitar player is. It could be a generational thing (as in who was playing with them when you got into them).

Anyway, who is your favorite Stones lead guitar player: Brian Jones, Mick Taylor, or Ronnie Wood?

I look forward to hearing your response.

I can't say I've seen this poll before.

Of course, you could have listed Keith Richards too, as he DID play quite a few leads. But my answer would still be Mick Taylor ... heck, I bought Bob Dylan albums because Mick was on them!

I don't know a whole lot about the Stones, infact I didn't even realise they went through three guitarists. I'd have to go with whoever wrote/played Can't You Hear Me Knocking. That is an absolutely dynamite riff and really got me curious about what I must be missing by only knowing the 'classic' (read: 'best of' album styled selection) Rolling Stone songs.

I vote for Mick Taylor since I can't vote for Keef. But I love Keef. He's the king of 'slop' guitar. And I mean REALLY good slop. He has a vibe all his own that no one can match.

I totally concur! It was Keith Richards by the way. That is a smoking hot riff! He played in on a Tele too.

Great stuff!

Keith played the riff that we all know, the first part of the song....the part with lyrics. The second part of the song was mostly played by Mick Taylor, that searing jazzy almost Santata like lead was all him...he just kept on playing after the song ended and everyone picked up their instruments and started jamming again.
