Brad has asked us time and again to not respond to spam posts. Just report it using the ! button. Responding just keeps the tread going and does nothing to stop the spammers. Do you think they really care that you post where the original text came from or when you call them names? No. Just report the post and leave.

Respond to proper threads instead and the spam soon falls off the page.

Really appreciate the thought here - it actually makes it take much longer to clean up when folks engage. Not doing so makes it a simple matter. As funny as the retorts to obvious spam attempts can sometimes be would really prefer that folks refrain.

Brad,

Maybe you should make this thread or one of your own a sticky at the top of each forum.

Brad, would it be possible to have the red "!" greyed out once a thread has been reported as spam? This would let everyone know that the thread has already been reported.

Thanks & Cheers!

Even better, how about when a post has been reported, hovering the cursor over the ! says "This post has been reported"?

Good idea, Bill. This way a member will not be wondering why the report button is not working.

Cheers!

Better spam handling, period, is part of the upcoming plan here and as part of that we'll take a look at items like the above for sure. Have had to keep all attention and focus on completion of the surrounding new Fender.com and our upcoming NAMM excitement but ... once we clear some hurdles I can't wait to devote some additional focus time here!

To be fair, that's what nearly all of us have been doing nearly all the time lately. These days the spam threads (including the firestorm ones) are mostly dropping down the page without being added to.

Apart from anything else, there's so many of them at the moment we've all run out of jokes...

Though there was a thread yesterday that several of us posted on - after the spam content had already been removed (the one where strings10927 found himself unexpectedly dangling at the top). I think that's allowed.

Cheers - C

    Amen!

Now just for grins and giggles and to satisfy curiosity, is the spammer generating these posts automatically using a bot or is he actually setting up an account and making a post manually? If he's doing it automatically then I can see how it could be worth his effort - i.e. analogous to email spam - but I don't see how it could be worth his while doing this one post at a time.

    Just curious, ...
    Cheers!

Speaking of Spam, Why does Hawaii have a better selection of Spam than I do in the state that makes it? Don't be a Spam hater!

Thanks Brad,
I would imagine that you've noticed, but in case not, the recent spams have all been triplicates...same author, different headings...should be easy to quarantine one would think.
