The weather here is so rotten today that you wouldn't send your mother in law out in it.

The tow truck operators are loving it though.

I live in a big city, in the northernmost part of the US south. People always freak out. Every road was covered in salt and they're calling for 3" of snow max tomorrow night.

We often get 6 inches of snow or more in June.On June 6 1991 I bought my first convertable and we had a raging blizzard that dumped 8 inches of snow in some places.

I want another snowmageddon. We had to have had at least 2 or 3 feet of snow. I had a 3 week winter break that year!

I grew up in Ohio and I thought that I knew what living in the snow was like. I spent 3 months in 2001 in Barrie Canada and I was shocked by the snow there. I once saw a snowman that had died of frostbite in Canada.

Not to one up you, but I grew up in Michigan and thought I knew about snow and cold coming off of Lake Michigan...well while in the AF and stationed in Germany, I got sent to inspect the embassy in Moscow, IN NOVEMBER! To say I was shocked by the amount of snow and the -45 degree high for the day is a HUGE understatement :!: And I don't think the snowmen had the balls to even go outside there!

Both of my daughters live in the Labrador part of the province and they usually have snow there from October until late May,and that means banks of snow several feet high. It's not entirely foreign for them to face windchill factors of -50 C.Engine block heaters and 4WD are a given for people living there. One daughter has a regular FWD vehicle but where she's the town cop she has a 4X4 work vehicle in the driveway 24/7 so her car is largely unused in winter. She's in the process of looking for a 4X4 truck lately because my youngest daughter has one-upped her by getting a fully decked out 4X4 crew cab Hemi Dodge Ram.

My parents-in-law were fabulous people so I'd wish them nothing but good. However, my mother-in-law was the gentlest soul on earth but also tough as nails: she'd laugh in the eye of bad weather.

Anyhow. No snow where I am, but it has just become officially the wettest year in recorded history. We were worried it might not achieve that distinction but the sky has been making a really first class effort and it has been raining non-stop for weeks now and the record is secure.

Looking out the window at this second it is raining horizontally, which is entertaining...

Cheers - C

Btw., here's a pic I took at Christmas Eve , across the street , over to my neighbor. Today the weather is rather rainy here , but still considerable amounts of snow

Hi Asgeirman-that's a beautiful scene and very much like winter is here, including the topography and style of buildings. In the areas of our province where the snowfall is greater than in others, people build houses with steeper pitched roofs.

I too grew up in Ohio, and the reason I now live in Southern California where we have seen some cold weather lately too. We only saw a high of 62 today.
