I'm looking to find out which dealers in my area have one of the Nate Mendel basses in stock. How can I find this information without calling each one? I asked Fender Customer Service, but have received no response so I thought I would turn to the people for help.

Google shopping though you may find that some shops have it listed as in stock but don't actually have it in stock and vica versa.

Good luck.

Yeah, sadly google searching doesn't tell me who has it locally. It certainly tells me sweetwater, musicians friend and other warehouses are selling them. Crazy to me in this day and age Fender wouldn't be able to tell us who has one in stock. Or worse, that they wouldn't respond to an inquiry. I like to support my local shops. And I don't buy anything without trying it first. So I won't be getting a Nate Mendel bass.

Do you have any idea how many authorized Fender dealers there are in the world? That doesn't count dealers that get Fender guitars in trade. To expect Fender to keep track of individual dealer stock is ludicrous and certainly not their responsibility. That's why its called "dealer inventory."

Couple the fact that places like Sweetwater have very liberal return policies and your laziness at being willing to do even a small amount of work to find what you are looking for, maybe it is better that you don't buy that bass.

In the 2 days between the OP's first and second posts in this thread, he could have called all the dealers in his area. To not do so is shear laziness, expecting others to do his work for him. Then to say he won't buy the bass because Fender doesn't keep track of dealer inventory and he refuses to call is just stupid. That's what my late mother used to call "cutting off your nose to spite your face."

+2; well said, both times.
As my mother used to say "common sense is not all that common"
the OP had a baseless criticism of Fender and should remain bassless.

I'd have to go a +3 on that.

And seriously what makes someone think that a small dealer is more worthy of your trade/money than a large dealer.

A couple of considerations here: the people who run the small dealership are just people, they could quite easily be very similar to people working for a large dealer. And the small dealer has a smaller turnover and so stands to gain proportionally more by ripping their customers off.

I've had some bad experiences with small dealers over the years. Really it's pot luck, sometimes you'll get good service and a great product and sometimes you won't and that goes for both large and small dealers.

I used to try to support small local dealers but no more. I've never had a problem with a guitar I've bought over the internet.

That's my rant over for the day :D

PS: I won't be quoting my mother because she talks rubbish most of the time.

I would not think the dealer would know the answer anyhow. It would be the distributor for your area or country that would know who they shipped that particular guitar to.

Besides it's really easy to do a local search in Google for music stores, but you still have to call the individual stores locally once you get the listings on your screen.

It's not up to FMIC to sell to the individual stores. FMIC sell to distributors. Distributors sell to stores. You need to know how the Manufacturing and Distribution supply chain actually works before you blame the wrong company.

It was rather difficult, it took nearly a whole minute, but I checked the product page, clicked "Find Authorized Dealer" beside the Howie Mandel bass, clicked "Find Local Dealer", typed in my zip code and selected how far I was willing to travel, and four stores came up. But, now I'm too exhausted to actually call all four stores, so forget it, it's too much trouble.

Post the phone numbers here and maybe the OP will call the dealers for you. :!:

No. wait. That's what he wants someone to do for him since Fender doesn't know the answer. Shame on Fender for not knowing the exact inventory status of every authorized Fender dealer in the world. Fender should have a live link into every dealer's computer. That should solve the OP's problem.

If the bass was the real problem. I am new to the community, but I didn't join to ask someone to do research for me. I joined to have fun and learn. I am succeeding at both.

I see a lot of first posts here are for problem solving with new gear and often with no pictures. How rude.
